p: Can television really take the place of books as means of achieving knowledge, like the title expresss that? I concede that television can indeed bring a ot of current to us. Yet, in my opinion, books, as a carrier of both contemporary and traditional culture, can not be replaced by television.
1. There's no doubt that television, through which its audience can acquire almost whatever information they want, such as the latest news around the world, entertainment after home from busy daily work, etc, has become an indispensable facility for every home in our world.
2. Although television has so many merits that can bring convinience and help to our life, it can not take the educational function of book, for the reason that the knowledge of book is much more broader and commplicated than television can show.
3. Besides that, to some people, such as students and bussinessman, it's more easier and more convinient for them to read books than watch TV.

The information on a television screen involves every aspect of our life: the economic news which could help businessman better control the direction of their enterprise; the new political plan about which both the native people and the people beyond our border are concerned; the new discovery in an scientific field; the information about a celebrity who you adored, and so on. When you select a channel from which you want to gain favorite information, the information will be on your screen. Television can also serves as an entertainment tool to bring happy and harmonious
element to our family. When all the family are sat
on a sofa too see a film or an amusing program
in front of the screen, the house will be filled with a burst of sound of smile, and for us, we may forget the fatigue, even distress from our work. It's good for everyone!

Although television has so many merits that can add convenience and help to our life, it cannot take the place of the educational function of book, for the reason that the knowledge of book is much broader and more complicated than that television can show. Television tend to communicate moral and social lessons to the viewers by the program of forum attending by celebrity, good films as well the law program, while the books involves almost every field, ranging from history to modern science. Also, television are inclined to concentrate on current culture which can not reflect the genuine trait of a certain group of people, books, however, record the evolution of human from one culture to another.

Besides that, to some people, such as student and businessman, it's easier and more convenient for them to read books than to watch TV. Watching a special TV program must be at a given time, even at a given place, it cannot make sure that people can acquire the information he want in a exact time, but reading books, such as magazine and paper, can be wherever he/she goes. The invention of e-books has make reading much more convenient, people can just download the novel and news or information to Mp4 and watch it whenever wherever he/she goes.

To sum up, without television, we may live a kind of isolating life, but without book, we may find ourselves being strange to all the civilization founded by our previous generation. It cannot deny that television is really a versatile facility in our time, but when talking about acquiring knowledge, the book remains the best choice.
