2.7 Do you think success is important, or it is more important to remain happy and optimistic when you fail?

The statement is an accurate description of people’s attitude towards success in ordinary life and work. It is undoubted that success is important. As for me, however, I fundamentally agree with the point that it is more important to remain happy and optimistic when you fail. Reasons for this can be illustrated as follows.

To begin with, a large number of people tend to live under the illusion that they can easily succeed without hard working. Obviously, they seem to fail to take into account the basic fact that failure teaches success. The information I have collected recent years leads me to believe that failure is more helpful to our growth and success always come too late. We can learn from the experience of the great inventor Edison that sometimes a serious of apparent failures is really a precursor to success. The voluminous personal papers of Edison reveal that his inventions typically did not spring to life in a flash of inspiration but evolved slowly from previous work. So we should notice that success is hard before a serious of failure.

Additionally, no one can deny the fact that all roads lead to Rome. So we should believe that there is no really failure, and the only thing we should do is remain happy and optimistic. For example, many people did not understand why Bill Gates gave up such a good opportunity to study in Harvard University when he made his decision to drop out. But Gates remained happy and optimistic instead of caring too much. Now, Microsoft becomes the biggest software company in the word and Bill Gates becomes the richest man in the word. In sum, the attitude when we fail determines whether we can finally succeed.

To sum up, due to the above mentioned reasons, which sometimes correlate with each other to generate an integrate whole and thus become more convincing than any single one of them, we may be comfortable to say that it is more important to remain happy and optimistic when we fail.
