TOPIC: ARGUMENT193 - The Department of Education in the state of Attra recommends that high school students be assigned homework every day. Yet a recent statewide survey of high school math and science teachers calls the usefulness of daily homework into question. In the district of Sanlee, 86 percent of the teachers reported assigning homework three to five times a week, whereas in the district of Marlee, less than 25 percent of the teachers reported assigning homework three to five times a week. Yet the students in Marlee earn better grades overall and are less likely to be required to repeat a year of school than are the students in Sanlee. Therefore, all teachers in our high schools should assign homework no more than twice a week, if at all.

This article give a suggestion of limitting the assignment as the Department of Education find that assignment may have(has) bad effects on students'
success, according to the result of a comparation between two areas about the amout of homework and the academical success of students. But obiously there are many discreptions in this arguement which make the result unreliable.

First, the sample of the survey referred in this article is not big enough to represent the opinions of all teachers. Teachers attend to this survey are all specificated in the areas of science and maths. It is totally possible that when it comes to other subjects, more homework will progress the scole. Furthermore, no data in this survey shows how many teachers have taken part in this survey and which high school are they come from. Smaller size of sample will cast more doubt on the result and also, if all or most teachers come from high schools where too much of workload has been put in students' shoulders, they will definately acclaim the bad effects of assignments.
Besides, this article unfairly assumes that homework has the major duty of students' process. In fact, school life is not just about doing homework. The quality of teachers, the previous students' capacity of study, and the amount of materials a school can provides to its students, all of these will
contribute to the final grades. It is possible that what contributes to the higher grade of Marlee students is that they have spent a lot time to study despite of finishing their homework. To support the presented idea, the author need to provide more evidence to show the correlationship between homework and grades.

Finally, this anoucement of limiting homework may ignore the difference between this two areas. Even we presume that the success of grade in Marlee is totally due to its lighter worload of students, it is illogical to conclude that things are the same in Sanlee. In fact, in a place where students have gotten used to survey(carry on) the heavy workload, once such load is gone, they may spend all of their spare time playing, which have a big possibility to worse the already bad grade.
So before take this policy into act, it is better for the superviser to do more investigation. They should more evidence to provide the tight correlation between homework and academical process, and reasearch the local situation to insure that their policy can really benefit the grades of sthudents in Sanlee.
