TOPIC: ISSUE81 - "Patriotic reverence for the history of a nation often does more to impede than to encourage progress."
WORDS: 467 TIME: 00:45:00 DATE: 2010-2-24 16:14:52
看着这字数,看着这拼写,就知道不知道该说啥了……不行啊不行啊不行啊~!!要找感觉~! 求AW之神附体啊~!
Being rightly adored as the cement for a nation, appropriate patirotism adds to the national cohesion and thus makes the unprecendented(unprecedented) progresses(progress不可数!) possible. However, when the reverence for the histroy(history注意OR!) goes too far, patriotism may turn to be chauvinism and thus bring about catastrophes.
Fundamentally, the patriotic veneration for the past of the country, a spirit cultivated and developed from the collective memories and understandings along the path the country progresses, serves as the necessity, even the prerequisite, for nearly any achievement the society could attain. The recogonition(recognition拼写!) for the past promotes the self-respect and confidence, forsters(foster拼写!) a shared sense of belonging that ensures not only the subsistance(subsistence) of a group but its flourish. German people, for example, hold tightly the admiration for their own histories and cultures. In eighteen(the eighteenth) century, despite the splitted(split不规则动词!) land and disordered situations that came along the chaotic sovereign, Germans believed firmly on the greatness of the nation. Armed with such strong affection, they fought for the unification, built a new country of Germany and afterwards, strived for its prosperity. Without the patriotism and confidence derived from the adoration for the histroy(history), people facing the depressing, even desperate situations may lose heart and surrender to the failure. How can a country with splited(split) faith and heart attain any further accomplishment?
However, the reverence is nowhere tantamount to the blind worship and an excessive patriotism may turn to chauvinism, drawing the country towards the destrous(disastrous拼写!) end. Being discernibly different to the benificial and well-reasoned passion, chauvinism, which oftentimes presents itself in the form of the ethinic(ethnic只有一个I!) supriority(superiority拼写!) complex and the debasement for other nations, can trigger irrational fetish and orgies of hatred internationally. Here again comes German. After the booming progress achieved in the begining(beginning双写N!) of the twentith(twentieth) century, with the surging confidence, came the fasinating(fascinating) idea that as the German had proved(proven过去分词!) themselves to be the superior over all other nations, the world should be bestowed to them. Hitler assumed the power with subsequently intensified chauvinism and large-scale of slaughters towards the Jews--the people who had been decided to be inferior and thus could be justifiably killed. They won some "progress" and "prosperity" initially, what came next? The history replied with the collapse of German in the World War II. "Patriotism" roared and the confidence from the glorious past abeted people to enchroach(encroach无H!), to invasion(invade), to trample the right of others and eventually to destroy their own country.
Natural and warranted is the innate reverence for the histroy(history) of one's nation, which cements citizens to the same society and joins the faith and confidence with the national pride, making the national attainment possible. Neverthelss(nevertheless), when goes to the extent foster chauvinism, what the historic reverence could bring about might be a lost couse(course拼写!) that hurts both the country itself and the world. |
