As we were children, we often pestered our parents to tell us stories about what happened in the past, even though we knew people in the history would never appear in current world, we tried to understand the meaning of every story and subtly believed that there exist a relation between the past and the present. However, a number of people are under the illusion that we do not need to grasp the understanding of past which, they claim, provide little guidance for living in the present. History, in fact, arms us when we confront obstacles, reforms us when we commit mistakes and inspires us when we have difficulties in advancing.

How many times have people been frustrated by overwhelm barriers and overpowered by ruthless reality? In this case, history would equip human beings with courage to overcome their difficulties. Through getting to know the past, individuals would realize all of their seemingly unconquerable problems have already been settled by people in the past. The financial crisis of 2008, for instance, disheartened myriads residents in every country. Anger, fear and disappointment are nothing but impediment of advancement of society. At that time, if we look back to the past, we would know desperate crises occurred not only once. However, great human beings with their resolute faith rise every time we fall. All of these stories serve to pluck up people`s courage to confront every collapse.

In addition, looking back for an understanding of the past could offer individuals an opportunity to recognize their inherent weaknesses and correct some inappropriate behaviors and decisions. Individuals could always find similar experiences someone underwent and similar decisions people made in the past. By comparing and contrasting the past, statesman could consider which policies have positive effects on society, company leaders could choose a win-win approach with other corporations and students could decide which career is the most suitable to them.

Furthermore, doing research of the past is related to a variety of scientific knowledge. We often say, our culture defines what we are. That indicates, culture which is established by all events in the past and all the embodied psychological appearance of predecessors has significant influence on human being`s ideology, behavior and judgment. Also, only through researching some concrete entities, could some sciences advance, such as biology, astronomy, prehistory and so force. Let us imagine what our construction would be without researching the structure of ancient houses and buildings.

Admittedly, a full understanding of the past would be useless to some extremely technological development. The manufacturing of computer or the designing of a website, for example, probably have little connection with the past. However, technology is not our whole life. The influence of the past does have permeated into every aspect of our life.

In short, although current society is new and complex, our existence does not fleet out to another new dimension where there is no relation with the previous space. Human beings` behaviors, knowledge and way of life still need guidance of the understanding of the past.
