When people think about the great achievements in history, what come to them first are usually those famous few individuals. The famous people have made great contributions to the society. However, the great achievements cannot be done without the support from groups of people.

It cannot be denied that the famous few people have played an important role in those activities and trends in history. They are usually the political leaders, the heroes in the war, or the scientific or business idols. When we think about the American Civil War, which gave freedom to African American people and united America, Lincoln comes to our mind; when we recall the Normandy Land, Eisenhower appears as a hero of that move, which is a crucial success in the Second World War; when the scientific progress is talked about, it is usually those great scientists that are remembered, such as Newton, Faraday, Einstein and Bohr. These people are either so brave and courageous or intelligent and hardworking, that every time we think about those achievements, we could not stop admiring them.

The famous few people have indeed contributed a lot to the significant events and trends in history. However, without the groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten, their work could not be done. Without the people's support, the famous people could only fight alone and would not succeed. Consider the Lincoln and Civil War. While Lincoln played a vital role leading northern soldier fight against the southern resister, he could not fight alone if people didn't join his army and fight for the country. Nobody could fight alone, and the heroes in the wars and the political leaders would be destined to fail if n body support.

What about the great scientific and business leaders? It is also true here. Without other people whose identities have been forgotten, they could hardly succeed, let alone being remembered. Newton did most of his discoveries by himself, but if there was no former people's finding and theories, he would get nothing. He had once said (and I paraphrase)' I am not more intelligent, but just stand on the formers shoulder and look further'. And we can understand the former people's achievement have helped him a lot. Also, many business idols are remembered by us, like Bill Gates, Jobs, and Forte. But Bill Gates perhaps could not sell so much software to world if no workers help him manufacture; Jobs could not create new products if nobody suggested and made experiments; and Forte could not produce so many cars by himself. All these important achievements and events in history could not be made possible without people's support and hardworking. Therefore, we cannot over-emphasize the importance of famous individuals.

Why are these individuals standing out in history, instead of others? These people are not the only people who made the achievements possible, but they have their unique value. They are different from other people----more hardworking, better leadership and communication skill, and it is these qualities that make them unique and become leaders and therefore remembered. Moreover, this society needs models, from who people can learn and deal with problems better. And we cannot render those whose names are unknown our models. In short, the value of individuals is unique and this way they are placed more emphasis on.

In conclusion, the significant events and trends in history are made possible by both the famous few and the groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten. Without both parts, history could not progress. But the value of the individuals is unique and they need to stand out in history. This is the social trends.
