TOPIC: ARGUMENT72 - In measuring electrical activity in different parts of the brain, researchers found that people who describe themselves as generally happy have more activity in the left prefrontal lobe of their brains than do other people. Therefore, a medication for stimulating the left prefrontal lobe of the brain would be an effective treatment for clinical depression.

In the argument the, by citing the research result that the people who describe they are happier tend to have more electrical activity in the left prefrontal lobe(LPL), the arguer advocates that make a medical stimulating to the LPL can treat clinical deprssion effectively. Nevertheless, the author omits some vital details and suffer several logical fallacies which may make his suggestion less effective and even wasteful.
First, the author states that the people who think they are happy have more electircal activity in the LPL.  However, as we all know, the term "happy" is a abstract notion. Is the arthou able to give a accurate definiton of "happy"? I am afraid not. It is entirely possible that  people who think they are happy are not happy at all. Since the author can provide no strict standard to figure out who are actually happy, we can not take the result of the research seriously.
Second, granted that the people who stated they are happy truely feel happy in  deep heart, the result that the more sense of happiness the more electrical activity in their LPLs are dubious since the author fails to provide the specific statistic information and more concrete details. May be the research was only focus on several candidates, and their electrical activity can owe to other reasons such as genetic difference, physical problem, ect thus as it stands they can not represent the common people. Lack of more information, the conclusion of the relationship between happiness and the electrical activity lost its solid foundation.
Last but not the least, even if the sense of happiness are relevent to he electrical activity, can we make a heart felt smile after the physical stimulating when we are deeply sad? This sounds really unwarranted. The author may confuse the casual relationship between the sense of happiness and the electrical activity that is to say that  the LPL come to be more active  when people feel happies rather than when LPL is active then people will happy. In addition, even though the stimulating can indeed give people happiness, can we guarantee that the treatment has no side effect? And can we simply use the electricity to "trade" the happiness? If we do so it is the same as we use the heroin to make ourselves numb.
In sum, the writter should provide more detailed information about the research to solid the ground of the reslut. Yet, the author should prove that the treatment has no side effect. Without foregoing information, we can not take the suggestion.
