The efficiency in education is a hot issue people are frequent talking about nowadays, after all, education is long being considered as the fundamental element of development in science. But is education be really effective only when it is specifically designed according to individual's needs and interests. In my opinion, I agree with the speaker insofar that in terms of education, interest is the best teacher. However, specifically designed education will absolutely waste limited resources and for the majorities, merely addicted to one aspect is not appropriate for the society.
Admittedly, interest does have its significance in education. Common sense tells us that human beings do have their inner desire to search for the unknown world to fulfill their interest. On the other hand, interest always gives us inspirations in developing new method to solving the toughest problems in the world in accordance to what people need. Meeting the individual needs and interests of students will be a way to create a more open and free atmosphere in academia and therefore better benefit the development of the society.
However, specifically designed education for each student can lead to ponderous burden to the financial system of the country when considering the cost. In almost every country, education resources such as teachers, classrooms and other media implement are in urgent need. To meet every individual's need, more money should be paid by the government and other aspects of the country will surely be lacking in financial support. Also, it is unnecessary in reality, because not all students are truly absored in studying and specific resources spent on them is totally wasteful. To have a thorough consideration, only when the positive effect offsets its costs, the policy can be appropriate. But at least for the present, the assumption is impossible as it stands.
Furthermore, although we have enough money to apply such policy to give specifically designed education, it's not wise decision ether. Society of today is more complex and diversified than ever, what we need most are people of eminent abilities in various aspects rather than people addicting to only one skill. Even Bill Gates, the wealthiest man in world who dropped out of Havard half-way, is strongly against the policy. He encourages people to be excelled in more aspects of the world and acquire more general skills of the society, and suggests that the education should enhance students' awareness of adaptability to society. What’s worse, specific education may contribute to certain bad habits, such as self- centered trend and unwillingness to cooperate, both of which impede the progress of the individual in such a interconnected society.
Therefore, first we must concede that properly satisfying the individual's need and interest do have its positive side. Then, more method should be come up with to tackle the issue of its feasibility. We should have more alternative classes for students to choose from and more students are interested in science should be allowed to participate in scientific research. Moreover, plenty of competitions in all kinds of aspects in academia should be encouraged, thus giving more chances for students to realize as well as show their interests and help make a positive circulation in education.
In conclusion, although interests can do much good to students' motivation in study, it doesn't mean we should make the specifically designed education for every student's need and interest. After all, Education resources are limited and people should have the requirement to be excel in different aspects of the world.
