147"Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."

The author claims that one must choose between tradition and modernization cause of they are incompatible. I concede that there really exist some conflicts between tradition and modernization, which represent two contrary: new and old, respectively. However, many times tradition and modernization are harmony and even play an important role in society. Therefore, we should maintain and develop advantages of tradition and modernization, not merely choose one of them reject another.

Admittedly, obvious conflicts have between old ideas and modern ideas. Increasingly development of science and technology substitute traditional technology. Because traditional technology is out of date and even thwart the progress of modernization scientific technology. An aptly example is illustrate this point. As see the history of agriculture improvement, over the 10,000 years since agriculture began to be developed, peoples everywhere have discovered the food value of wild plants and animals and domesticated and bred them. Modern agriculture depends heavily on engineering and technology and on the biological and physical sciences. Irrigation, drainage, conservation, and sanitation each of which is important in successful farming-are some of the fields requiring the specialized knowledge of agricultural engineers. Thus, modern technology makes human beings’ more leisure and instead traditional old ways.

However, it dose not mean that tradition and modernization is unable to get along. Moreover, tradition and modernization is relative. Something was once labeled modernization, while what we take as modernization would eventually become part of tradition. For instance, contemporary home-decorations can be a modern space with antique accents or a traditional space with contemporary accents.Letting tradition or modern style dominate is crucial so keep an equal attention in home. Therefore, in fact, some modernization is root in tradition and combine or even beyond tradition.

What’s more, traditional wisdom is still useful and can help the development of modernization. It is still relevant and can inspire us to search for solutions to present problems. Large amounts of adages from ancestors and transmit from generation to generation are a typical example. Some like “A contented mind is a perpetual feast.” we can learn that no matter what has happened we should keep a grateful mind. So traditional knowledge is actually help people learn more about modern society and find solutions to present problems.

All in all, both tradition and modernization have advantage respectively and can help to each other. We should make great effort to preserve and develop their advantage rather than to choose one and refuse another.
