3月27 到3月28   一篇I一篇A
I题目
28-30"Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little."
A 51.The following appeared in a medical newsletter.

"Doctors have long suspected that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain. This hypothesis has now been proved by preliminary results of a study of two groups of patients. The first group of patients, all being treated for muscle injuries by Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, took antibiotics regularly throughout their treatment. Their recuperation time was, on average, 40 percent quicker than typically expected. Patients in the second group, all being treated by Dr. Alton, a general physician, were given sugar pills, although the patients believed they were taking antibiotics. Their average recuperation time was not significantly reduced. Therefore, all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment."

28        我的I28"Students should memorize facts only after they have studied the ideas, trends, and concepts that help explain those facts. Students who have learned only facts have learned very little."

The speaker made a extremely conclusion, he claimed that if student learn facts without its ideas, trends, and concepts, he will learned very little, admittedly, I
partly agree with the speaker, Concept, idea, and trends are very necessary part in students' studying process, if without them, the result of the studying might be abstract, however,
I am not agree with the speakers' ultimate claim, he claimed that students who have learned only facts will learned very little, this statement is an extreme conclusion, facts also plays an important role in the process of learning

In the research of natural science, take myself as an example, I am a postgraduate of forestry management field, in our study, the context of the theory, including history ,development, and conception are very essential, we always need to reading numerous reference, in order to make our research
In fact , In the history of science, there are many examples can prove this statement,
the theory of
acceleration of gravity is a good example, the conception of acceleration is very abstracted, when students cater this new theory, they may be confused, the explanation of this conception is the acceleration of a body in free fall under the influence of earth's gravity, expressed as the rate of increase of velocity per unit of time, this conception might be very confusion for most of junior school students, but when the teacher tells them a realistic experiment, the student will understand, the experiment is about two iron ball of different weight and same volume , when Galileo make the experiment in the leaning tower of Pisa, both two ball full down in the ground at the same time, during this explanation, all student will keep this theory in their mind,

similarly, polish astronomer who advanced the theory that the earth and other planets revolve around the sun, it is also a complicate conception, without the realistic example, students can not figure it out, teacher can told the students that this is the reason why day and night appearance alternatively in every day as well as fours seasons come in turn yearly. Beside these conception, when student learn principles of multiply, only remember the multiply tables is an useless way, they should learn the reason and how to use it. Therefore, during some of instance, we can realize the role of the ideas, trends, and concepts of a fact.
However, i strongly disagree with the speaker's claim of students will learn little if only remember the facts. when we were young, the comprehensive ability of our brand has not matured, most thing we had learn were depended on abstract memory, our parents told us the norm of morality, such as revering elders and caring the young, industrious and frugal, politeness, in that time we have not understand why we should do it, but these facts stand in our mind and can not be forgot
To sum up, only by gaining useful perspectives and insights about facts can students learn, make comprehension and memory together is the best way to study. These two abilities are two different kinds way of study; generally, memory plays vital part in our childhood, when we become mature, comprehensive memory took the place. in one hand, emphasis the comprehension overly will lead students overlook conception and the importance of factor, and probably made them can not use what they have learned in the future skillfully. on the other hand, emphasis the memory too much, will make students lost the interesting of study and ability of solve problem, so, mix these two part, student will get better improved

The speaker contends that students should memorize facts only after they have learned the ideas, trends and concepts that help explain those facts, he/she also believes that students who have learned only facts have learned very little. While I basically agree with the claim of the speaker, I still need to qualify in several aspects.

In the first place, the purpose of students’ learning is that they would use the knowledge what they have memorizing, and pursue some researches on their own critical ideas. Thus, knowing the basic information of the facts, what the students should memorize, would help them better understand the suitable circumstance in which the facts would be used. For example, if we know the history and the characters of the hydraulic torque converter, we could design the automatic transmission of which the torque converter is one critical part. Moreover, the concepts of the facts would prevent the learners from forgetting them as time passed. Such as the word “China”, if a student has learned that there are plenty of beautiful chinaware made in China, he/she would never forget China, as seeing the chinaware somewhere.

In addition, learning the ideas and concepts of a fact means that we learn more other knowledge as well, it might be easy for us to learn other facts that could include the same basic knowledge. For instance, if we have learned that the earth is circling around the Sun under particular periodicity, we can use the same basic law to explain the movement of the Mars. That would practice the ability of a student to solve the problems on his/her own.
Admittedly, there are lots of facts that we have no ideas, trends and concepts about them, they are just the basic laws that we must memorize them without any extra help. And of course, the progress of our society is contributed by the great people who have learned plenty of usual facts and then generalize the basic laws from them for better solving other relative knowledge. And also, with the great development of the science and technology, the facts that we should learn and memorize are innumerous. We, especially as a student, have so heavy stress to study that we have not enough time to investigate the details of these facts. For example, a student who will attend the GRE test, must remember at least eight thousand words, most of which they have even never seen before, it is hard for them to learn all the concepts of the words before memorizing them.

To sum up, as I have recommended, it is better that students learn the basic ideas and concepts before they memorize the facts. However, in some particular situations, they must just remember the facts in any event. So it is not a dilemma for the speaker’s claim, we should address with this issue flexibly.

In this argument, the arguer recommends that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be treated with antibiotics based on the preliminary results of a study, which seemingly lead the arguer draw the conclusion that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain. However, after a careful examination, we could notice that the recommendation is vague for several critical flaws.

First of all, the arguer fails to convince us that it is truly because the secondary infections that influence the healing speed of the patients after severe muscle strain, just from the unconvinced preliminary study. As we want to find out that whether the secondary infections reduce the healing speed of the patients with severe muscle problems, we should choose the patients who are suffering the severe muscle injury as the sample. Unfortunately, we have not enough information from this argument about that, as well as the numbers of the sample and the randomicity of this sample. Accordingly, we might be misleaded by the doubtable result of the study due to the uncommon sample. Even though we have the common sample to pursue our study, the method of this study questions the accuracy of the result. Because Dr. Newland who specializes in sports medicine, as one of the two doctors in this study, might have much more contributions to help the patients heal quickly than Dr. Alton who is just a general physician.

In addition, there are no evidences to strongly prove that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would take antibiotics as part of their treatment. Granted that antibiotics are helpful for the patients with severe muscle problem to recover quickly, there is no guarantee at all that antibiotics have the same healing effects for all patients no matter how seriously they are injured. The patients with a lightly muscle strain might have little chance to get secondary infections, therefore, they do not need to take antibiotics at all.

In conclusion, the argument is not persuasive as it stands because the evidence cited in this analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To strength the credibility, the arguer should provide more information about the way of the sample chosen. To better evaluate this argument, we need more evidence regarding the treat methods of the two group of patients and the healing effects for all patients with the muscle strain.

In this argument, the arguer recommends that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take significantly reduced, to support this conclusion the arguer cites the result of a resent experiment that the arguer taken, moreover the arguer points out that according to this experiment the conclusion is proved, as it stands the argument suffers from several critical flaws as follows.
In the first place, the arguer said that doctors suspected solve a problem of severe muscle strain patients, if these patient get the secondary infections it may keep some patients from healing quickly, than in order to prove this conclusion, the arguers take an experiment, about this experiment, i have a lot of question, first of all, these two group have bean treated by two different people, one is a specialize doctor, another is a general physician, doctor definitely have numerous experience of healing patients, but the physician will have less experience relatively. because of these the foundation of experiment is unfair, at same time, i have no idea about the  random of these two groups, if one groups full of men and young people, another group have a lot of women child and old people, the comparison of two group is not justify as well as its conclusion.
In the second place, the recuperation time of the first group was 40 percent quicker than typically expected, it can not explanted that this result is all because of antibiotics, it may be some other reasons, such as the patients diet, daily schedule, mood, history of other family hereditary illness and so on, we can not afford all reasons to antibiotics, other groups have the same situation
Last but not least. the experiment have only proved that patients who take antibiotics may healing quicker than some not, this is a ambiguous conclusion, it can not represent all muscle strain patients, it also can not illustrated the conclusion that antibioses is an indispensable part of treatment, only two group people can not represent all muscle stain patients. this experiment have many drawback that can not improve the conclusion
To sum up, the conclusion reached in the argument lacks credibility since the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer claims. To make the argument more convincing, the arguer should provide more information concerning all perhaps circumstances to better evaluate the argument, we need more concrete evidence that can strongly support the conclusion, and otherwise the argument is logically unacceptable.
