题目:ISSUE59 - "Too much emphasis is placed on role models. Instead of copying others, people should learn to think and act independently and thus make the choices that are best for them."

Whether people can make the choices that are best for them by learning to think and act independently instead of copying others, as the speaker recommends? In a sense, I somewhat agree with the notion that independent thinking is significant in people making the choices that are best for them. Nevertheless, closely followed, it is unwarranted to draw the conclusion that copying others does not contribute to making the best choices at all without taking into account the importance of copying models. In my point of view, it is the combination of copying-models and independent thinking that can help people to make the best choices for themselves.
To begin with, I fall in with the speaker's contention that to think and act independently is of great magnitude for people in making the best choices for themselves and achieving success. On one hand, generally, more or less, one's experience, personality and surroundings are different from another's; copying others' experience and methods without any adjustment to fit personal condition would probably lead to contrary effect in making choices and decisions. After all, people are more familiar with themselves than others do.
Besides, on the other hand, with independent thinking, people are more likely to think differently to have ever higher achievements. For example, while people were copying Bill Gates, Larry Page brought us Google; similarly, while Larry Page's Google became the a public role model copied by many IT companies, Evan Williams, with his Twitter, came up to us. All of them are typical examples representing the importance of idependent thinking in creativity----which have made a lot of people successful.
Although independent thinking and action are significant in the way to success, it does not necessarily indicate that copying others, aimed at emulating role models on the basis of digesting the essense of their successful experience, is meaningless. In my observation, the history is replete with examples that final achievements begins with imitating famous ones: Van Gogh, for example, imitated impressionism paintings before he formed his own style; however, after digesting the essense of impressionism, he finally developed his unique painting style appropriated by people from all over the world. Thus, few would agree that such imitation founded on digestion has adverse effect on helping people make the best choices for themselves.
In addition, by and large, any kind of study starts with imitating "teachers": babies begin to learn speaking by imitating their parents; students begin to learn mathematical analysis by imitating their math teachers; boys begin to learn play basketball by imitating their favorite basketball players. On this level, copying role models is inevitable.
In point of fact, relied on both independent thinking and the "copy" of others' successful experience can people make the choices that are best for themselves. With copying-others as reference, people's independent thinking can take less risk to go to a long way around, or even a totally wrong way; with independent thinking, people are able to eliminate the laziness and dependence that might caused by mere imitation and spring up with more creative ideas. Consequently, these two factors are subsidiary to each other in helping people pave the way to success.
On balance, I concede that independent thinking and action play an important in leading people to where they want to go; however, it is unreasonable to conclude that people should avoid copying role models. In fact, people are more likely to make better choices with independent thinking and action based on others' successful experience.
