Owing to the highly development of science and technology, a great number of changes on the way we live have taken place. A growing number of people come to realize that the parents do not understand their children as well as parents understood their children 50 years ago while others hold the opposite opinion. As far as I am concerned, the parents do not understand their children so well as parents did 50 years ago. I will illustrate my view in the following paragraphs.

The most crucial reason for my inclination is that science and technology has increased the gap between parents and their children. Since it is easier for children to accept new technology, their way of living is usually quiet different from their parents. For instance, children may complete their homework with the help of the Internet. They probably play computer games to kill time.
However, their parents treat these new products in a traditional way.
This might lead a misunderstanding between these two generations. As an illustration, some parents may think that it is not necessary for children to use computer to finish their assignments. On the contrary, parents and children in 50 years ago did not have this problem. Because the science and technology at that time did not have much influence on people's life. To sum up, parents in 50 years ago understand their children more than today.

Another equally significant reason is that parents and their children today have less time to communicate with each other than the 50 years ago. Along with the development of modern society, it is inevitable that the work of both parents and children are more stressful and less leisurely than in past. Therefore, they have less time to share common their interests and their problems. For example, my cousin David is a high school student and he always tells me "I am so busy that I even have no time to go home". And his father is a company manager and he goes out for business almost once a week. His mother is a nurse who often works at weekend. By contrast, children and their parents in 50 years ago have more opportunities to communicate with each other than today.
Thus, parents today do not understand their children so well as the parents did 50 years ago.

In addition, the concern of parents today about their children is much about the grades in order to make their children more excellent. Parents usually have no idea of what their children really want and think in the contemporary society. This would not happen in the 50 years ago.

To sum up, parents have a worse understanding of their children than the parents 50 years ago since the new technology have increased the gap between parents and children and they are so busy to complete their work that they have less chance to communicate with each other by heart-to-heart and parents pay much attention on their children's grade not their effort.
