8.3.写的作文,还请各位大侠们多多指教,先谢过。

Topic: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Newspapers and magazines are the best ways to learn about a foreign country?

During the sweeping process of globalization, our big world, for good or ill, is becoming a rather small village, where a prodigious amount of information is seen as the flood constantly rushing down via all kinds of media (the Internet, television, newspapers, magazines, etc.) and causes a really annoying problem for us: what is the best solution we could rely on when we want to know more about what is happening on this tiny and busy planet? As a matter of fact, the Internet beats newspapers and magazines in this tough competition, winning almost everyone’s favor with the three reasons below.

First of all, the Internet, the supermarket that harbors everything a person could be interested in, generously provide anyone the access to all the knowledge of different religions, histories, customs including people’s diet habits as well as values shared in fields of education, society and so forth. There goes the good example of Harvard University. Recently hundreds of videos of the open courses in Harvard have been put on the website for keen learners from every corner of the world to download free. These remarkable on-line resources, I would say after watching them, has opened up for me the extraordinary opportunity to take a fresh view on the western education and also brought me the determination to pursue my further study abroad. Thus, can newspapers or magazines offer people cosmic information as much as the Internet does? The case above, as it is, just proves that the answer is “No”.

Second, in terms of the speed of the information flow, the most horrible tornado would be shamed at the presence of the Internet, let alone newspapers and magazines. Who is the outstanding postman that sends the latest news around the world? The Internet. Especially during this year’s World Cup in South Africa, people can never forget that it is on the websites that they are watching the games and talking with others about every amazing goal as well as the instantly updating scores and ratings. What about newspapers? Who cares when they solely print yesterday’s scores on the lead-poisoning paper?

Last but not least, featured with multi-media, the Internet allows a more active presentation of the information than newspapers and magazines. Not only can you browse texts and images posted on the web pages, but also the combination of video and audio together with the interaction with the other people in the world despite of the distances and language barriers (the websites kindly provide the translation tools and subtitles). In the eyes of a language learner, the Internet enjoys the reputation as the best teacher of all, since it allows him/her to practice listening when he/she is watching The Big Bang Theory on-line, and speaking when having a good chat on MSN over some issues like culture shocks.

To sum up, anyone would not feel surprised when such an announcement is breaking the ground: the era of printing is over, and the Internet has been crowned as the emperor of next generations.
On the road.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (ages five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.
