“In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books”
With the television widespread, the traditional reading is affected , seeming that less people would like to read books. Thus the speaker asserts that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books in the age of television. At the first glance, this opinion seems to be somewhat convincing , but further reflection tells me that I can’t agree with it completely for the following reasons.

First of all, even though the TV occupies more time in people’s life, people don’t give up the habit of reading books. As we know, current knowledge is still in the form of books. In schools, students use books to gain the knowledge rather than watching TV, at the leisure time during the work , people prefer to read novels or magazines to relax. In addition, another advantage of the books is that they are portable . With the smaller shape and lighter weight, person who like to read could carry it with himself .What’s more, relying so much on the technology is bound to make the life more complicated ,reading books may make you feel easier.

Secondly, in the long process of watching TV, people’s eyesight are getting worse and worse. This explains why more and more primary students wear glasses in small age, therefore instead of learning via the TV ,one of the worldwide education organization advocated students to return to book-learning. Recently, the organization hold a campaign of making students away from TV and do more reading, which serves as a typical example. Furthermore, the books are becoming more beautiful with better paper, which attracts readers’ attention, making them more dedicated to the book they read.

Moreover, just think about the junks on the TV these days, when we enjoy the excellent images and the visual impact , we can’t ignore the negatives form it. Nowadays when we turn on the TV, more programming with violence and murder are getting into the line of sight, which can’t be the knowledge we would like to learn ,especially the overwhelming ads , always providing the useless information ,might be the nightmare for all the TV watchers.

However , admittedly TV is playing the more important role in humans’ lives . For a ordinary people who is television-based , the television has become their main leisure activity ,they could get fun more directly from the TV shows rather than reading the dull materials. And TV News is the fastest way for people to be in contact with the whole world, by this mean, people could learn where happened the significant political affairs and the latest score of sports games, even the people who has won the lottery. As we know, human could capture more information by colorful images along with the impressing sound. So it’s a good way to learn via TV at the leisure time.

To sum up , both reading books and watching TV are suitable for learning . The only difference is the former is the common way to learn information and the latter maybe the best method when relaxing.
