We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict our own; disagreement can cause stress and inhibit learning.

Admittedly, we could learn much from people whose views we share:
(a)
They share the knowledge, experience and skills of the same field and thus make them easier to communicate.
(b)
They could help you understand the problems deeper and in detail.
(c)
Due to this similarity, however, one might be unable to find the flaws and imperfectness of the knowledge and understanding.
(2)
In this case, those people who views contradict our owns might be of great help:
(a)
What they know are different from ours and thus could broad our ken
(b)
They might provide their unique way of solving problems that provider a wider choice.
(c)
Through the discuss and debate of them could one get a better understanding of what he or she possesses. (In order to persuade the others, one might have to seek more information and more critical thinking and thus improved his overall abilities.)
(d)
Learn the tolerance in the communication of others, which is also important for one’s personality

While the discussion and debate might cause people to be excited and lose the calm of objective thinking, what deserves attention is the attitudes people take toward them, not the discussion or debate themselves.

Conclude: both are important.

best-selling drug treatment for arthritis, will be the most profitable
pharmaceutical company. But the patent on Xenon expires in three years,
and other companies will then be able to produce a cheaper version of the
drug. Thus, it is more likely that in ten years the most profitable
pharmaceutical company will be Perkins Pharmaceuticals, maker of a new
drug called Xylan, which clinical studies show is preferred over Xenon by
seven out of ten patients suffering from the most extreme cases of
arthritis."
