Arts are the treasures of the world social culture. During the long process of history, both arts as well as science promote the development of society and culture. Beside this, arts also record the evolution of human beings' history. Therefore, is the arts have the function to reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society?
   Primarily, arts are solely a particular tool to express the artists' ideas, clearly, which has nothing to must reveal so-called hidden ideas and motivations of a sociey. As Britannica Online defines, art is "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others." Therefore, what arts reflect is limited by the creators. Unless artists care about the social events, his/her creations will not manifest on the similar themes.
   Most artists create arts instead of language just to exposure their senses, emotions, experience and values to communicate with others, which did not reveal the social ideas. Sometimes, they do it on purpose, but whiles, they do it unconsciously. In the psychotherapy realm, there is one method used art as the mediate named Art Therapy, which has been practiced successfully in clinical work, especially for people who are not good at expressing themselves by speaking, like children. It is useful for the patient and doctor to communicate with each other by art, like sandplay, drawing, photography and so on. The whole process of art is private, safe and unintentional. This is an essential example for us to support the arts' function that express the creator themselves. Anyway, men live within the society, so his/her insight mind probably in accordance with others -- the viewers, and then arose their minds too. This may become a motivation for this community to act. But what I want to emphasize is that all of these is only an coincidence, not a property of arts.
   In addition, the statement that arts reveal the hidden ideas and impulses of society may be the viewers' own ideas but not the art itself. As it said, there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes. Your own minds make the decision that what you perceive from the arts. If you cares about social events, every thing in your eyes may be relevant with social ideas. Still more do the absolute ambiguous arts.
   Furthermore, what arts reflect is not only limited by the creators, but also the circumstance. If the environment keep the ideas from expressing and communicating freely, the arts still dare not touch the society's core. If they want, the expression is also distorted.
   Above all, art itself is just a tool, a method which creators use to communicate with others. And then, what the arts reflect is limited by the artists, viewers and the environment. I believe, everyone would find the one he/she want in arts.
