请问assumption是指什么？

看到awintro和很多文章中尤其是argument里经常说到assumption

可是我一直不怎么理解这是什么意思，是假设吗？

比如argument中：

In sum, the recommendationrelies on certain doubtful assumptions that render it unconvincing as itstands.


我的理解是argument题目是基于各种facts，由于错误的论证的到结论。那assumption是什么呢？
