88. "Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics."

Taking a brief glance at history of human existence, it is not difficult to draw a conclusion that technology. defined as the application of science and knowledge, has played an important role in bring transformation and improvement to society. However, these changes only influence our lives, social customs and ethics, can not determine them.
   With the development of technology, people are freed from much burdensome labor, having time to enjoy. Then, it is naturally some extent of traditions and practice behaviors also have changed. For example, the invention of contraceptions, like condoms and contraceptives, profoundly influenced the social customs. It follows the reasoning that before this invention occurred, most people have sex solely after marriage, at least in China, but now, the situation seems different: people become more and more open to talk, to taste about sex, and the time of first sex has been advanced from. An obvious example is that sex has been mentioned more and more frequently in media, like films, TV series and so on. People feel free and control of their own life. Once, nearly all people think the other meaning of marriage is pregnancy and then inherit to the whole family. But now, thanks to the condoms to some extent, both men and women are choose to release from the durance, and determine their own lifestyle, like DINKS, who refuse to having baby. All of these show us that people's behaviors and the social customs have been changed because of the development of technology.
   Additionally, taking a further example, abortion, we can know the influence of technology on the ethics. If people failed to contracept accidentally, they would face the dilemma: continue to birth it or abort the baby. It is not easy to make a decision, especially to the person who are unmarried, because in the society, especially in traditional countries, like China, having babies before married is a shame, while abortion means killing a person, although it is just a baby inside, is also ashamed. Once it is too difficult to choose, may we have to confused and skeptical about the ethics.
   However, although the technology bring such an influence to our lives, it can not make a decision instead of ourselves. The two is a correlativity but not a cause relation. Men's humanity is the chief reason because of the no matter how high-tech and convenience the technology is, it is still just a tool created to rebuild the nature by men. Most technologies are developed with good anticipants, but it is a double-edges sword, for instance, the Internet, which have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale. However, it also becomes an effective criminous tool for criminals. Therefore, the technology itself is neutral, and it is the man who use the technology and decide how to utilize it; it is the man who develop the techniques; it is the man who should take charge for the bad or good aftermath.
   To sum up, technology is just influence our lives, but the human make the decisions. Man should take respondent to control how to make good use of the technology.
