As the world is modernized, tradition is relevantly dying out[没道理吧]. However, nowadays, tradition and modernization could coexist harmoniously, which appears to be against the regularity of civilization development that the old, lagging culture[trandition=lagging culture么?] would gradually be replaced by the new and advanced one. Actually, the survival of some traditions is the result of modern commerce[只是一个方面的原因吧], and this phenomenon effectively supports that tradition and modernization are quite compatible.[这句话没什么道理。两个incompatible的东西可以相互独立的存在着吧。]
At present, things we consider traditional have become a part of art[所有tranditon么?], which in their own times actually had functions in daily lives. History is filled with such examples as the development of architecture. Before the ancient Romans invented arch, huge buildings were supported by many colum[n]s. And this form latterly[lately] became an architecture style which stands for the respect to the gods. Nowadays, we could find some new public buildings with many ornamental colum[n]s made by concretes rather than bricks and stones as the ancient ones. No one cares about the meaning of the traditional style but only focus on the beauty and magnificence of the constructions. Customers would feel good when shopping in such places, which exactly accord with the purpose of the merchants——attracting people’s attention. It appears that the tradition is reserved and appreciated by the public, but in fact, it has lost its original functions and meanings and has been modernized.[首先不是所有trandition的东西都变成art了,题目肯定是想说那些与现代不协调的trandition,比如…来,一起想想]
In addition, as the media promote that the tradition calls for protection, the citizens are starting to pay attention to traditional festivals and customs, which again meet the commercial purpose. We may take an example of holiday cards. Sending holiday cards to friends used to be a traditional way to express one’s best wishes.
With the appearance of the Internet, sending electronic cards has substituted the traditional cards, [这个which指代不明]which is more convenient, economical and environment-friendly. However, media recently start to advocate sending holiday cards again. They claim that this is for the reservation of holiday tradition, along with the purchase of roses in Valentine’s Day and conations in Mother’s Day, leading to great benefits of merchants. From the perfect cooperation of media and commerce, we may recognize that it is the modern business rather than the public who are holding on traditional customs, which indicate the mixture of tradition and modernization.[例子和立意有问题,虽然电子邮件贺卡取代了传统的信件贺卡,但是也没听过哪个情人节送个电子花的吧,我觉得更多是情感上的而不是商业价值。]
Even if some traditional customs are preserved, the traditional conceptions are disappearing. Since the character of each era varies, people’s opinion toward the same situation differs. We may acknowledge people’s notion toward love and marriage from the novels of Jane Austin in 18th century. Their marriages were not only based on love but mostly on the social status and amount of fortune. At that time, women were not allowed to work and marriage was the only means to change their destiny. But in modern times, people’s opinions are open since women’s social positions are equal to men. The marriage beyond status and race is common and would not be condemned by public opinion. Consequently, the traditional wedding ceremony is reserved but people’s opinion of marriage is modernized.[寒,联想到目前诸多无房无车无户口不嫁的种种现实,女靠嫁男靠家的思想可一点没有消失] We could keep any traditional customs that are considered meaningful, but as the advancement of technology has been consistently changing the way we live, the modernization of people’s conceptions is irresistible.
Despite the fact that traditional culture seems popular with some specific groups of people, it could not prevent the disappearance of tradition. The modern business has saved the body of tradition but its spirit is gradually dying. Now, we could see the harmonious coexistence of tradition and modernization. But several years later, when traditional customs have been totally changed by the modern commerce to meet their benefits, we will not have to choose from tradition and modernizations any more.
