All students hould be required to take basic science classes even if they’re not this major.

There is a growing trend that university students, regardless of major, ane required to take basic science classes. Do they really have any values? Ji Xianlin, one of the greatest educationists of China, commented, “Science plays an indispensable role in the cultivation of well-rounded students. ” I believe his word answer tge above question. In other words, it is advisable for university students, no matter what their majors are, to have basic science classes because these classes provide tremendous benefits to them.

First, taking basic science couses prepare students of science major for specialized studies or professional jobs later on. From science subjects, students can learn knowledge of how the world functioning. And they can develop general intellectual capabilities, for instance, critical thinking and analytic ability.

By having courses in basic science, students majoring in liberal art can broaden their own vision, which make them more versatil and adaptive. In contrast, if art major students specilaize in history, language, literature and subjects of this sort, they will have greater difficulties adjusting to changes in careers in the future. Take one of my high school classmates Ye Su for example. He majored in finance in a liberal art college which provides no science lessons for students, and later became an accounter in a bank. But, one year ago, he changed his career as the department manager of an corporation whose main business is manufacturing electronics. Lacking of knowledge related to the business, Ye Su spent long time to adapt to the new profession. Therefore, having a broad knowledge is of great significance to one’s work.

By taking lessons in science, the students are inclined to be more rational. As very conscientious and careful subject, science scarcely draws conclusion without tremendous amounts of researches to sustain. Therefore, science is usually considered to be a reflection of a true world. It is often the case that, people who have learned science hold a more sensible view on surroundings than those who have not.

Admittedly, taking basic science lessons seem a waste of time to student whose major is not correlated to science intimately. However, the knowledge of science play an integral part in cultivating students’ world view.

In summary, it is evident that the learning of basic science classes can be greatly beneficial to students.
