TOPIC: ARGUMENT179 - The following is a memorandum written by the director of personnel to the president of the Cedar Corporation.

"It would be a mistake to rehire the Good-Taste Company to supply the food in our employee cafeteria next year. It is the second most expensive caterer in the city. In addition, its prices have risen in each of the last three years, and it refuses to provide meals for people on special diets. Just last month three employees complained to me that they no longer eat in the cafeteria because they find the experience 'unbearable.' Our company should instead hire Discount Foods. Discount is a family-owned local company and it offers a varied menu of fish and poultry. I recently tasted a sample lunch at one of the many companies that Discount serves and it was delicious-an indication that hiring Discount will lead to improved employee satisfaction."

Merely based on the unsounded assumptions and dubious evidence, the arguer draws a conclusion that their company should replace the Good-Taste Company by the Discount which will lead to improved employee's satisfaction. Although the conclusion seems to be convincing and appealing at the first glance, it is in fact ill received after close scrutiny of this assumptions and evidences. In my point of view, the conclusion suffers at least three logical flaws.

First and foremost, the arguer complaints the high charge of the Good-Taste Company and according to the increasing price during the last three years, the arguer unfairly assumes that their prices will continue to increase. Without any data listed to verify, the assumption is highly questionable. Actually, it is quite possible that it is due to the high quality of the Good-Taste Company that make their prices high, secondly, it is equally possible that the raw materials such as meal and vegetables are more expensive, as the cost increase the price also effected the same tendency, and maybe other food companies are also electing their price, the Good-Taste Company's increasing percentage may be lower than others. Without some relative evidence, we can not agree with the assumption.

In the second place, the arguer assumes that Discount Company can providing meals for people on special diets, which is another reason of replacing Good-Taste Company. While there is no evidence to justify it, in fact the author only said they service with a varied menu of fish and poultry, while special diets are simply contain them. What's more, the arguer assumes that Discount Company will satisfy employees, simply based on his own experince, which is unreliable; his eating habit can not stand for the overall employees, as different person has distinctive favorite foods. Lacking citing out such possibilities it is unwarranted to say hiring Discount Company will sure to satisfy every employee.

Finally and maybe the most importantly, the author simply quotes three employees' complaints of their unhappy experience in their cafeteria, thus assumes the services of Good-Taste Company is really bad, which is unscientific. Firstly, three employees can not represent the whole employs' opinions; it is very probably that many of them are satisfied with Good-Taste Company. Secondly, the arguer fails to rule out alternative possibilities, maybe these three guys have a bad mode that they or they just exaggerate to say the food was bad, or that experience is just a casual phenomenon. Without ruling out such factors, it is groundless to say Good-Taste Company can match what his employee's needs.

In conclusion, the argument, while it seems logical at first, fails to substantiate strong and convincing evidence to validate the speaker's claim. In order to make the conclusion much more acceptable and logical the arguer should reason more convincing, provide some evidences that are more persuasive, and take every possible consideration into account.

谢谢你的意见~恩 我最近写也发现了 我逻辑找的有问题 可能想到好几点错误 可是怎么揉成3段 这还是问题。。。。
你有什么好的总结么？~可否不吝赐教一下~
