in this era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing requirement of people, some experts claimed that: all the faculty should work outside the academic world which relevant to their specific field. the problem soon become heated that, there are both people agree and disagree with this saying. personally in my point of view, we need to maintain a balance by which to solve this educational problem.
basically, government offering more opportunities for the professors who specific in applied science to attend the practical activities, which will surely benefit for the professors' specialized knowledge. when taking part in the certain kind of work in the practical situation, professors will be managed to contact and associate with the real condition of the field in which he teaches. for example, a professor who specific in commercial advertising field will gain more experience and collect more statics than reading books if attend a real advertising company and that probably could be greatly helpful to his following teaching work.
on the other hand, usually, majority of professors probably keep their mind on the courses they teach since they were young. A biology professor will not have any interest in astronomy, likewise no one will also compel a cardiologist to learn the architecture principle. So in a long time that professors in universities are only specific in their own technology, but as a teacher, a man who be asked for teaching courses to the students, maybe it seems a little bit incompatibles. However, letting more professors join in the social work could widen their knowledge range. during the social work he may contact with many persons who relevant to the field but employed in different sections of a hole system, which is also a chance for the professors to improve themselves.
moreover, professors could also use these practical experience to explore new commercial chances and turn their specific knowledge into productions. Simultaneously, companies would also feel pleased to hire these highly educated experts to widen their business scope and create new methods to improve the efficiency, quality and safety of their products.
however, it is unwise if we compelling all the faculty go into the social work, especially the researchers who specific in purely academic field. for these group in university, what they need is a platform, an environment to let them concentrate on their research and all they look for is academic theories, but not the production or the commercial opportunities. so it seems that there would be not too much significance for these experts to attend the social work. What we should do is not to disturb them and offer them the best condition to discovery new theories.
in sum, this controversy describes the dilemma faced by many people in this era. from what has been discussed above, we see that even though the dilemma still exists, it is not difficult to draw the conclusion that we should give more chances to the applied professors to take part in social work, while maintain a stable environment for the researchers to focus on their academic work. after all, how we look or deal with the faculty in universities and colleges is associated with our increasingly requirement of education. Obviously the advise argued in the topic will not effectively improve our standard of education so much, sometimes, we have many other issues at hand, sometimes, we need the end and the practice to justify the means. |
