The worldhas witnessed an increasing number of interactions between different countriesand cultures even since the come of information age. It seems that the planetis becoming smaller and smaller recently. One can easily have a grasp of whatis happening all around the world only through opening a piece of globalnewspapers. Thus, I hold a positive view towards the way that learning aboutforeign countries through mass media just as magazines and newspapers.

Providing a diverse range of information and reports about a country's history,geography, culture and lives, newspapers and magazines can instill people withcomprehensive and overall knowledge about acountry. The mass media especially some traditional media like newspapers andmagazines are already becoming the main stage for different countries tocommunicate with each other. So within the fields those traditional mediacovers, one is able to get what he/she needs in the process of learning aboutanother country. For instance, one can even learn the development of specificarea and some up-dated technology in this field through a professional magazinesuppose he/she is especially interested.

Apart from being informative, the contents in magazines and newspapers areconvincing and believable. Undoubtedly, the traditional media has been developingunder the supervision of both government and people from the regions it covers.In addition, the information of introducing a country provided in traditionalmedia is most written by some local people, at leastaccepted by locals. Thus, compared to some experience people might hearfrom other resources, the information in mass media is more credible. One mightfind some traveling fleets might boast thedestination country to be extreme wonderful, with several unrealistic pictures.But in magazines and newspapers, it is hard to find any misleading informationabout another country in most cases.

However, whether learning foreign countries through magazines and newspaper isthe best method, is varied from person to person. Some people who are strongly preferring to choose learn from personal experience,might hold a view that the things we get from media are not vivid enoughcompared to experience of oneself. Especially tosome special fields like local arts and music. One cannot tell what they are likeonly when himself/herself is involved in live shows and exhibitions.

All in all, certainly through newspapers and magazines is a good means to get aunderstanding of a new country for great quantity and quality information theyare showing. However, it cannot be denied that sometimes this way is stillsomehow limited by its indirect means of information.
