Would students benefit more from an education which not only endow them with the capacity for reasoning and logical thinking but also teach them to explore their own emotions as the speaker's claim?I strongly agree with the assertion because these two aspects are indispensible in the process of forming a integral character. However, whether an educational system should place more emphasis on either depends on their ultimate education objectives.
To begin with, when it comes to sciences, few people would deny the merit of reasoning and logical thinking since both of them is the foundation upon which human knowledge advances. And we can claim that they play a dominant role in the realm of science. One example aptly illustrates this point involved the Three Laws of Motion and the Relativity Theory. It was Isaac Newton, the father of modern physics, created the Three Laws of Motion which established a comprehensive structure of physics knowledge. Many other physics theories were deduced from them and countless empirical experiments were essentially the reflection of them. And the big threes seemed to dominate the academic area forever until the presence of Albert Einstein, with his Relativity Theory which point out the flaws in Newton's theory. If Einstein was a emotional person rather than a people with the ability for reasoning and logical thinking, it was tempting to think that he will comply to the big threes as most people do given Newton's tremendous influence and authority. We cannot say that Einstein published his subversive theory without any hesitation, fear and uncertainty, all of which are understandable to us all. However, the rational thinking finally surmounted the emotional thoughts and turned a new page of the development of science. In this respect, educational organization should pay more attention to the cultivation of rational rather than emotion.
On the other hand, things move to the oppose direction when it comes to arts. The nature of arts is to lift human soul, and enhance our creativity and vision of aesthetics. The instruments, easel, brushes are only the bridges between the real world and the artists own emotions.Outstanding masterpieces can surly strike symphonies among the viewers or auditors, which is the very objectives of artists.Considering the development of painting, it underwent series of different periods such as realism, impressionism, abstractionism and surrealism. With the evolution of painting style, artists are trying to explore their own inner emotions deeply. By appreciating <Sunflower>, drawn by Vincent Van Gogh, an impressionism painter, we can feel Van Gogh's passion for life from the elegant lines and warm hue. When we come to watch a surrealism painting <The persistence of memory> draw by Dali, few of us will get anything meaningful simply from those relatively awkward and abstract image which usually beyond our reorganization. However, if we have learned the background knowledge about this painting, we will be inevitably impressed by the meaning Dali wanted to convey to us which often includes the further exploration of subconscious. In this light, emotion takes precedence over ration, because even Einstein can give us a formula of beauty.
Forging these two provisos, I fundamentally agree that students would benefit more from an education place emphasis both on emotion and ration for the very reason that students do not where their interests lie and often have vague notions of their future career. Moreover, no one practitioner either in rational field such as scientific research or in a emotional field such as arts who refuse to concede that both ration and emotion are indispensible, would meet the society's demand and hence achieve any marked results.Emotional activity also has close relationship with creativity and imagination. For example, Albert Einstein admitted that his violin gave him lots of inspiration; Leonardo Da Vinci's research about human body anatomy and perspective give him brand new perspectives of painting and thus make him one of the greatest painters in Renaissance.
To sum up, the speaker is fundamentally correct because the educational characteristic the speaker supported will set a provident foundation for a student's personal future development. What's more, any people should not underestimate the value of ration or emotion. Although sometimes either of them seems to be much less important to you , in fact, ration and emotion reciprocate each other and serve you well. |
