Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student


The assertion claims that the only way for education to be effective is to meet the individual needs of every student. In my opinion, specially designed education can really promote the effectiveness to some degree. But there are still some disadvantages for it.

I assert that specially designed education can be more effective for the reasons behind. First, education in such model can meet students' interest and talent. Different student may be fond of different things. There is no possibility for unitary education model to meet every one. So the specially designed education can really arouse students' learning passion and have students' talent entirely utilized. ChenJingrun, one of the Chinese best mathematicians, wasn't outstanding when he got the normal education. After his talent was discovered by another mathematician, he needn't learn every course like other students. He enjoyed a special designed education. After gain the success, he attributes it to the special education to some degree and be appreciated for it. In a word, specially designed educations give the interest and talent the opportunity to make a great man who he is.

Second, specially designed education can make a huge contribution to the social diversity. There is no doubt that the unitary education sometimes limits one's thought. It sometimes even do not accept the existence of difference in some aspects between people to some degree. Yet the specially designed education not only accepts the difference but also inspire it. Such peculiarity comes from its fundamental idea, the respect of people's own personalities.

Nevertheless, the promotion of the effectiveness doesn’t mean that it's the only way to be truly effective. We shouldn’t ignore the shortage of it. People with specially designed education are much easier to be accustomed to be egocentric. Because in the procedure of their studying, there is no chance for them to take others' need into consideration. He will not know the adequate time to compromise and the time to insist on his need. That will make him not fond at collaboration. In the modern time, the disability of cooperation is a really horrible thing. How can we regard education with such outcome a effective one?

Besides, we can't assure that the specially designed education can benefit most of the students. Because, there is no evidence that every teacher can find the most appropriate way to teach his particular student. Maybe the way he chooses is worse than the unitary education. At least, the unitary education shouldn't be bad enough. Regardless of the feasibility of finding the appropriate way to each student, the education specially designed for everyone still has an immense social cost. Such education model make the society hire many more teachers than today and provide extra working room for them. Therefore, there is a trade-off we must consider carefully: does the benefit the society getting from the specially designed education is more than how much it cost. Maybe it's not worthwhile as many people think.

There is still another problem for the specially designed education. Some people claims that such education can meet every student's need. However, is the student's need rational enough? Many children and even teenagers don't know where their interest really lay. It's common that the fondness in their mind is provisional. On that case, if we only meet the interest he claimed before, it is hardly for him to be successful.
After all, it's a trade-off between the specially designed education and unitary education. We can go to neither of the extremes and must strike balance between them cautiously.
