TOPIC: ISSUE159 - "The human mind willalways be superior to machines because machines are only tools of humanminds."
WORDS: 594
TIME: 00:45:00

Whether human mind is superior to machines depends on in which aspect we are comparing the two. (this sentence looks aweful....)By simply declaring machines are only tools of human minds, as the speaker claims, we are only examining the issue in terms of ethics, thus the argument is one-sided.Machines have their innate limits and it's still remained to be seen that whether machines can simulate every aspect of human brains as the technology develops.(i don't think this paragraph is a good opening....the sentences are a bit chinglish and the opinion of yourself is not clearly represented..)
Speaking of speed, accuracy, patience and endurance, doubtlessly we are no match for machines. (As a topic sentence, this one is a weak one. It shows your uncertainty on the topic...) Take finding all the prime numbers below 1 millionas an example. This formidable task requires one to check on every integer with great care, deciding whether it has factors other than one and itself. It's so humdrum and exhausting that probably one will take a rest every 2 hour and eventually run out of patience. On contrast, a computer can print out the exact results to its screen within seconds and without pauses. Never will mankind break their limitations and peer with machines in computations.
Other impossible tasks for humans can also be a piece of cake for machines. Lifting hundreds of thousands pounds of containers, or getting the crude oil out of the deep ocean and so forth, can bedone with machines regarding their incredible strength, which is way beyond human's extremes. (i don't like the development of the last two paragraphs: TS+examples(even no conlusion sentence)...what i like is such a style as follow:TS+reasoning+examples+conclusion)
However, the fundamental basis on which machines can do so many amazing things is humans' careful design and sophisticated programming, which are consequences of highly complex human brains.(what a confused TS!!) Machines must be told every single step precisely by human and they just execute the instructions encoded in them. (chinglish!) Their intelligence therefore ismerely the reflection of human intelligence. Although they can store unnumbered solutions, they are unable to think out creatively a totally new solution.Similarly, when they encounter some situations that are not pre-programmed,they simply crash. In addition, human brain activities are so delicate and subtle that up to now we are still far from unraveling all the mysteries of them. Whether it is possible to thoroughly understand how human brains work andapply them to machine simulations remains to be seen.( I know what you wanna tell me in this paragraph only due to that I'm also Chinese...why don't you just tell us that "No matter how comprehensive and sophisticated the machines are, they are depended on the design of human"?)
In another perspective, the most basic operations of artificially intelligent machines are merely computations and comparisons, which are dictated by codes that are logically composed. Is everything logically expressible?I guess not. Human beings possess many characteristics that cannot be interpreted by purely logic and reasoning, which constitute the non-rational aspect of human. Psychological activities, emotions, feelings and so forth are such examples. I believe that it's impossible for a physical thing like a robot to fall in love, to feel fear or to have hope for something since those are behaviors that cannot be modeled or explained by logic. Maybe we can build a robot that is able to play football. It may appear that it has the will to win or can feel other robots and cooperate with them. But that's essentially different from a real player who can feel the emotional links underlying the teamwork and who has the sense of honor while striving for the best.(i'm totally lost in your reasoning...)
To put it in a nutshell, in certain fields we can never compare with our machine friends, but in other perspectives, we have our advantages that are not surmountable. We both have our own unique limitations. Currently, experts of artificial intelligence and computer science are exploring the possibilities of further improving the capacities of machines so that they can manage more complex tasks and function more similarly as human minds. We are hopeful to have a easier life with intelligent machines in the future.

please keep practise, and you will succeed someday... |
