Do ads is the crucial effects of unhealthy dietary habits? There is no deny the fact that ads, one of the decisive factor to market profits, leads the fashion of fast food culture, couch potato, and other unhealthy habits, relying on its design and publication infiltration. In my view, bad habits hinge on ads to some extent; however, the statement should be confined in some certain respects, esp. family education and public education, overall should be considered.
At first blush the statement that ads play a key role to cause ill habits appears compelling. It is true that people are always tend to focus on the ads, for example, carbonated drink advertising—Coca-cola and Pepsi cola, ‘junk food’ advertising – hamburger, cornflakes and potato chips, with its tantalizing and attractive image and brand slogan, naturally, its ‘fast’ design, struck and ‘allure’ countless children, teenage, and working class. While they give little attention to the food nutrition, a convenient and pernicious eating habit has been cultured already, despite the fact that it account for a large percentage of the malnutrition and body resistance lowed. Thus I agree the statement insofar as advertising is one of the most important causes of unhealthy eating habits.
Beyond the concession, however, I disagree with the statement. When it comes to work and education, we should place our attention to appraise other objective extensive factors besides ads, esp. physical and environment pressure, family and public education system, to dietary changes. To witness the healthy development of mental and physical health, one needs look no further than how about the social environment and education system.
We can consider the social environment, we are motivated what we proceed and programmed. Now we live a machine world that needs more attention to obtain more profits, do the machine-like rules; namely any rational person, all hoped achieves greatest income by the smallest cost, which means the world should pursue time-cost optimization: sacrifice time for economic profits. The direct result is that time-cost optimization confuses our regular schedule, automatically, leads an unhealthy eating habit. For instance, when one has a chance to promote, by presiding a formal international academic meeting, only need to do is prepare comprehensively for almost half year, contacting professors, government, and academic sectors. He should abandon his afternoon tea, weekend dinner, and even a regular nutritious breakfast. It is naturally get into an unhealthy eating habit after half year preparing. All of what he did are only subjected to his working factor, which really did great contribution to his career, of course, to his income; nor the attention to his health now, just orientated on its economic benefits.
Or consider the education factor. Only reasonably schedule school and family eating habits can people benefits from a long-run healthy dietary management. Family education is a crucial factor to culture a normal eating habit, considering the fundamental influence brought by parents and family life. At the meantime, public education also decides the current of children’s eating habits, including nutrition balance, food hygiene, and dietary laws. All above should be used as a standard and background to evaluate the causes of ill eating habits.
To sum up, advertising is just like that everybody in the section of clothes when there is a blind conformity and convergence; however, other factors esp. social environment and education system should be took into consideration.
