In the history of human society, none of the successful leaders ignores the ethical and moral standards which is important to establish their position and wield their power. However, the attitude of whether they have to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards should be paid differently based on the characters of their work.

In the political field, a leader should try his best to improve his ethical and moral standards. As we know, a leader can be voted to be a leader is due to the qualities he shows to the public, and the ethical and moral standards is the primary element of their evaluations. So if a leader cannot maintain high ethical and moral standards, the public would recall him without any doubt. Even if the public could bear a leader's immoral events, the leader himself cannot withstand the pressure from the public and media. Such as the Bill Clinton, after the scandal between he and Lewinsky was explored, he has no face to be a president, and thereby he resigned without any doubt.

In the business field, however, there is less-but not no-requisite to the highest ethical and moral standards. A successful business leader will be considered effective by his contributions to the company and the society. Making a long-period and huge profit is placed in the first place in the business field, so who can earn more money for the company will be able to get a powerful position. For instance, one CEO of a Japanese company is considered very effective because of his splendid ability to sell products, control the faculty, and make big decisions. However, his ethics and morals cannot be appreciated by a lot of people, for he found a sweetheart not long after his marriage. In this case, we cannot evaluate the influence of his activities but it is also hard to dismiss the effectiveness in the business.

We should pay much attention to a certain group of leaders-the spiritual leaders. For them, the highest ethical and moral standards are prerequisites. Without the high ethics and morals, these leaders will be viewed as a political cheater or a schemer. We all honor the Gandhi right now just because his highest ethical and moral standards.

In sum, we must treat different leaders in different standards, so that we can get a just and objective evaluation on the leaders. In order to be a effective leaders, any leader should do their best to maintain the highest ethical and moral standards, even though there is no requisite for it in their field. Only in this way, a leader can be considered to be an effective and honorable leader.
