TOPIC: ARGUMENT143 - The following appeared as a letter to the editor of a national newspaper.

"Your recent article on corporate downsizing* in the United States is misleading. The article gives the mistaken impression that many competent workers who lost jobs as a result of downsizing face serious economic hardship, often for years, before finding other suitable employment. But this impression is contradicted by a recent report on the United States economy, which found that since 1992 far more jobs have been created than have been eliminated. The report also demonstrates that many of those who lost their jobs have found new employment. Two-thirds of the newly created jobs have been in industries that tend to pay above-average wages, and the vast majority of these jobs are full-time."

*Downsizing is the process in which corporations deliberately reduce the number of their employees.

In this letter, the writer asserts that the article concerning the downsizing workers finding jobs hardly is really misleading, and to support this assertion the writer merely cites a recent report on the United States economy, at first glance, the report seems logical and sound to render the conclusion, however, close scrutiny of it , reveals there are a train of logical fallacies to weaken the assertion by the writer.
The major problem with this report is whether the report is really verious and accurate, it might be important
to this letter, if this report by the United States economy is only particial and mendacious to let the workers under the illusion that they could find better jobs and would be a better life, as a this the writer makes some conclusion based on this unsubstantiated report unreasonablely. In addition, in this report the writer cites fact that there are more jobs have been created than have been elininated to indicate that the workers could find jobs. In fact , albeit the work chances have been created, it is not meaning that the unemployment workers could be employed for this position, it is entirely that the populations have been increased and the unemployments are also increasing from 1992 to now. The downsizing workers might still find none job.
Furthermore, in this report it also points out that many of the workers who lost their jobs have found new employment. I still have a significant question about it, whether the jobs they find now is the suitable employment for them. It is highly possible that these workers find jobs provisionally just for living, the jobs they have now might not the steady and full-time jobs. Without accounting this possibility, the writer could not persuade me the that the article about difficult in finding jobs is misleading.
Before I draw my conclusion there is another sighificant flaw in this letter, I really have a question whether the new created jobs by jidustries could be suitable with the unemployment workers. The writer has not provided us the charactor and requirement of the jobs, perhaps these high average wages and full time jobs requires the high techniques and experienced skill in some specific fields, such as electronics, environment protection and so on, that the workers have not been in ever. The workers probabilly could not be hired for the different kind of working feild.
According to the foregoing analysis, we could easily detect that the writer concludes only by thereport that full of
unsubstantiated and logical flaws. The conclusion of this letter is groundless vertibly. If the writer want to better support the letter, he must provide us more information concerning the authenticity of the recent report by the United State economy. And aloso for better evaluating the conclusion of this letter, the writer should provide concrete information about the number and the characters of the jobs.
