TOPIC: ISSUE88 - "Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics."

I agree with the author's view that techniques are gradually forming our social customs and ethinics since the technologies are developed so rapidly in contemporary society and influence almost every aspect of our daily life. Yet, our beliefs and faiths which is rooted deeply in our meaningful tradition and long history could not be changed so quickly by the new inventions. Thus, I hold the view that technologies indeed definite some aspects of our social customs and ethics while we keep our beliefs in our soul.
With the technologies highly developed and daily varied, we have changed our living way to make full use of it. In the contemporary society, it is common to see that in a family, wife and husband, working in different cities, communicate with each other by I-phone or surfing on the internet to keep the relationship. In fact, it set our focuses on the benefits of this kinds of new-borned relationship of marriage. In the past, if the couples recieved great jobs in different cities, it means two choices: give up one's ideal job or end the relationship forever. We have to admit that the invention of net work has actually created a new way of life for us.
Another changed custom obviously is the high paced living way from the benefits of cars. In the popularition of cars, people in increasing number tends to enjoy the fast speed cars bring: go shop by cars, go work by cars, even drive cars to gym. The high speed leave us a conception that we could speed our pace of live. Thus, fast food, fast hotels, and fast way of learning have produced. This kinds of living way leave us a fast realization of life
Even though the new technologies haved changed sharply our way of life, even created a totally new type of living way, nevertheless, it could not change the humans nature, such as avarice, bratulity and aribitrariness. In some sense, we could safely say that humans nature have not changed a little but represented in another formation. Taking a retrospect to Iraqi War, we could clearly see how a instant cupidity for oil make the small but kinds of wealthy country to become most critical in humanitatian in the world, with millions of Iraqis forced to rely on the insufficient and poor-quality water sources. Technologies, improving the weapons for invasion from B-1A to B-1B, have no influence in promoting human nature. In fact, it is the sociologist, politician and economist’s, other than technologies’, task to advocate morality and cooperation worldwide. From this case, we at least exclud the possibility that technologies could determine every aspect of our customs and ethics.
In conclusion, technologies indeed plays an indispensibal role in determination of our customs and ethics, however, customs of human nature are out of that situation. |
