09.07.25NA Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Movies and TV programs made in one’s own country are more interesting than those made in other countries.
With the growing demand for entertainment programs such as movies and TV programs, the entertainment and media industry are becoming more and more profitable. Film makers and TV programs are seeking markets on a global scale. Turning on TV sets, our consumers can find that not only the local programs made in our own country but also ones made in other countries come are available now. Some people claim that those movies and programs made in one's own country are more interesting than those made outside. As far as I'm concerned, I don't agree with that opinion and my reasons will be listed as follows.
In the first place, it may be contended that, because movies and TV programs made in one's own country share the common culture background with the local consumers, they can be better understood in their own nation. Thus, with the common background, those information conveyed by plots or stories in the programs will be sensed by the audiences easier, which makes the programs to be more interesting. On the other hand, a Chinese audience may be hard to be amused by an American joke. However, this argument is not valid. In spite the local films are more easily understood by the local consumer, it not guarantees those films to be interesting ones. Besides cultural background, more things, such as plots, actors, directors, etc., should be taken into consideration when judging whether a film is interesting or not.
At the same time, not all kinds of movies or programs need their audiences to have a rich specific cultural background. For example, some programs and films about science, such as Discovery, National Geography, Planet Earth, etc. are popular all around the world. Without the specific cultural background, consumers from different countries are still interested in those programs. When film makers or programmers in their own country couldn't produce as excellent products as those ones, it is naturally for them to be obsessed by those wonderful programs.
Finally, some consumers are fancy about other countries' culture. Actually, compared with the local films or programs, other countries products will always be most interesting to them. Take my roommate as an example. He is extremely interested in Japanese cartoons. He perceives those cartoon characters to be more interesting than ones made by companies of our own country. But I just take the opposite attitude. So, interest concerns about different individual's taste, which couldn't be summarized hastily.
All in all, I don't agree with the idea that movies and TV programs made in one's own country are more interesting than those made in other countries. Because different individual have different taste, it is hard to find a definite answer to this question. |
