Schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

As we may see that, in order to improve the quality of tehing, more and more schools now begin to adopt a policy that asking students to evaluate their teachers at the end of every term. Teachers themselves have many things to deal with every day, now they have to face another pressure. Is it advisable? I hold that, to some degree, the new strategy is benefical to teachers and students.

To begin with, if the teachers are informed of that their perfomance will be evaluated by students, they would get motivated and make their minds to work harder and better, so that they can get a relative high mark. For example, there is no any evaluation system in school before, all the teachers get the same amout of salary. By introducing the evaluation system and relating teachers’ performance to the salary distribution, those teacher who are not so excellent would get nervous, and they would change their attitudes towards teaching and their work.

In addition, evaluation system is a kind of feedback system, teachers can understand clearly how they perform and how they impress the students. According to some researches in educational psychology, we know that when people finish doing something, they tend to know how the effect of it goes and other people’s reaction on it. So, after being evaluated by the students, teachers may know themselves clearly about students’ reaction on their teaching methods or styles, whether they are popular in students. The results of evaluation can provide the teachers a mirror to reflect themselves and improve to better. In turn, it is of great help to students’ development in study.

As for the students. They must evaluate the teacher objectively and seriously, this is to require the evaluator to listen to the teachers in class carefully and observe the teachers’ behaviors, in turn, this urges the students focus their mind on the study. Because, there should be responsible for their evaluation.

Students’ evaluation on teachers has many merits here. However, we need a objective and scientific evaluation standard to weigh teachers performance. Besides, it is only a new phenonmenon, whether is is a bless or not, only can time tell us.
