It is a common activity not only in China, but also across the world, for people to spend large amounts time playing and practicing sports. Why do so many people love sports? The one reason is that playing sports really brings great benefits to people, both physically and psychologically, and as far as I am concerned, playing sports also teaches people more lessons about life.
Playing sports allows people to understand the importance of teamwork, which helps them to have healthy relationships with others. Almost all sports activities, especially soccer, put great emphasis on the spirit of teamwork, cooperation, and communication. There are eleven players on a field, in which one or two superstars are incapable of leading the whole to win. A superb soccer team, in which all players keep sharing the ball, trusting and encouraging each other, is more likely to win the final game. Similarly, a family is like a soccer team. Only by helping and caring about each other, can a family thrive as a whole. For instance, with the financial support from other family members, who often become involved in sports activities at weekends and are aware of the meaning of the teamwork, college is still affordable for a poor boy. He will probably work extremely diligently during his studies, and after his graduation, he will strive to repay them for kindness. Consequently, playing sports teaches people that team spirit leads them to final success.
Playing sports makes people know that friendship goes beyond competition. Just like in the classroom, with some students who don’t frequently involve in sports. They often compare their scores as well as ranks with their classmates’, and feel something unpleasant, such as jealousy, slander, and bias. Nevertheless, what I want to remind them is that competition is temporary, and the friendship among them is eternal. By participating in some sports games, these teenagers are supposed to realize this true meaning of friendship.
In addition, playing sports teaches people that everybody should be respected. Soccer and basketball both encourage people to treat others with respect, which is a social skill that we all must learn if we are to succeed in life. We usually notice on television that players often shake hands before the game starts, and embrace rather than insult each other. This virtue is appreciated in daily life, too. A janitor who receives the low salary should be respected since he really cares about the safety of all students and teachers, a student who performs poorly in examinations should be respected since he may try very hard and a teacher who works in an isolated village should be respected since she contributes tremendously to the education of that area. Hence, it is playing sports that makes people understand that everybody in our society is worth respecting regardless of their appearance, social status, income level.
In brief, playing sports actually teaches people valuable lessons about life, such as the true value of teamwork, friendship and respect. I do hope everyone can show his passion on the playground. |
