103	"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

提纲：学习历史不仅仅与日常生活有关时才有价值，还能够给人以明示动力（牛顿，爱迪生，居里夫人，贝多芬，蒙娜丽莎），促进社会发展避免重蹈覆辙（社会的每一个进步都是在其原有基础之上进行的，学历史促进人们了解人类社会进步的轨迹，不去继续犯错误。文化大革命），提供解决问题的途径（金融危机，预防战争，两国出现问题要和谈解决而不是战争）。




                                                  Is history has value when only relevant to our daily lives?
Is that true that when history has value only when it is relevant to our daily lives? In my opinion it is not the case(不是那种情况) since history can inspire people on their research or job interests, promote society development avoiding following the same old disastrous road, and provide measures for solving problems.

Firstly, history can inspire people on their research or job interests. In the science realm, there are many famous scientists and inventors, such as Newton, Edison, and Madam Courier etc, and most of people are familiar with their stories as well. Maybe just because of the apple’s story of Newton, the interest of studying classical physics are ignited in some individuals’ heart. And thousands of experiments for choosing a proper filament of bulb were made by Edison, which make people know failure is not fearful, every failure is a step approaching to success. Madam Courier is a very famous female scientist, who spirit many females pursue the road on science. Meanwhile when students studying music learned the story of Beethoven after they enjoying Beethoven’s music or students who learned arts find the singularity of the smile of Mona Lisa, they may be persistent with their musical or artistic roads. And all these historical stories will give people power when they feel discouraged.

Secondly, learning history will help accelerate the development of society and prevent the same wrong doing in the history. With the retrospect of the development of human society, we know the developmental track of human society, the characteristics in each developmental period, and most importantly, we will clear our developmental goals. Human society has experienced respectively in agriculture, industry and information-based era, and every change comes from the emergence of new tools, so we know the innovation is crucial for human society’s big progress. And as we known, innovation is being paid attention to by almost all nations now. Further more, by studying the history can prevent taking the old wrong road, for example, the culture revolution in China between 1966 and 1976 would certainly be a catastrophe in the history of mankind, a large fault(大断层)of Chinese cultural traditions and long history. Also the revolution made people trample science, which was the big setback of historical development. So what people learned from the lesson was that they began to realize the importance of knowledge, and actively promoted the study of scientific and cultural knowledge from then on.

Thirdly, history can provide the measures for solving social problems. When encountering the financial crisis this year, the government
took quick measures to deal with it and we all can see the effects. It takes shorter time to recover before getting big depression. And for disputes between countries, we know friendly negotiation is much better than force to solve the problems.

Admittedly, history is indeed benefit for our daily lives. The wide road, comfortable furniture, delicious food, healthy life, all of which we enjoy now are the accumulation of history wealth.

In sum, to study the history has much more influential meanings except daily life. We may get courage from the influential persons in the history and our society will have a better developmental direction also better way to deal with crisis.
