The author of the passage and the lecturer apparently hold contradict opinions on the principal function of the Chaco structures. The author argues 3 competing theories for the function of Chaco structure. The lecturer, however, points out the inaccuracies in the reading .

The principal theory that the house was purely residential, which is supported by the evidence that the Chaoc structure is surprisingly akin to the later apartment is completely revised by the lecturer. The lecturer raises a doubt that if the place is residential, according to the rooms it has, there should be about 100 families .Accordingly, there should be 100 fire places for families to do daily cooks. However, it turned out to be only 10 fire places, which suggests that the main function of this building is not for resident.

Furthermore, the theory that Chaco structures were used as storages is also denied by the lecturer. Since it was unsupported
by evidence.
If the hypothesis is true, there should be some traces of maize or maize remains in the structures. Conversely, there is no evidence shows any trace of maize or maize remains in the Chaco structures.

Finally, Contrary to the statement that the houses were used as ceremonial centers, the lecturer also raises some revenge. Although there is a large number of broken pots or materials, we could not clearly find out whether they are used for ceremonies. Additionally, the materials were basically sand , stone and construction tools, which had nothing to do with the ceremony.

All in all , these three theories are not convincing enough.

With the rapid change in technology, environment as well as the social atmosphere, focusing more on your own enjoyment is becoming an prevailing phenomenon. Some people revises with this phenomenon, arguing that people neglect the things they should do. From my perspective, I prefer that people are not spending too much time on doing things they like to do rather than doing things they should do.

Before judging others, we should figure out what is called the thing one should do. Actually ,the ideas varies from person to person, Some people may argue that doing things as the practice is the thing one should do while others prefer the enjoyment is exactly the issue. Nobody could give a precise definition about what is the thing one should do. As society develops, we human have rights to seek our happiness and do things that we like to do ,really interested in and have great passion on it.  Spending time on personal enjoyment and doing things they should do is actually not contradict.  As we could definite enjoyment as the thing we should do, there is no criteria on it.

Even if we definite the things we should do is not the things we like to do, it doesn't mean people are neglecting the things we should do. If we define it as following the routines and finally succeed. Bill Gates is a case in point. When he quit the school, most people may consider him as a person who focus on his personal enjoyment rather than doing the thing he should do -----finishing study in college. However, Bill Gates proved that focusing on personal enjoyment can equal to the things one should do. A brilliant IT empire he built based on his personal enjoyment leads to a conclusion that people could doing things they should do as doing things they like to.

It is true that some people in the society are addicted to their personal enjoyment and lack of responsibility. Their behaviors have some influence on society to some level. However, we could not equal most people who keep a good balance between personal enjoyment and responsibility to them. All in all, people today keep a good balance between personal enjoyment and things they should do.
