Reviewing various cultures in the world, people could easily find rituals and ceremonies are inherent in most cultures, which thus also reveals the existence of traditional customs are essential for cultural development. In my view, rituals and ceremonies are not only the characteristics of a culture but also help people realize the positions to which they all belong.

To begin with, rituals of a culture, as regulations, directly inculcate or, sometimes imply, its people a serious of value standards acceptable in the mainstream society. For example, Eight Ranks Dance, a dance performers arranged in eight rows of eight, commemorates an immortal moral guide of Chinese culture – Confucius, the greatest sage and teacher. With this solemn ceremony, Chinese today express their admiration for Confucius as well as, even importantly, cultivate their future generations the concept of respecting teachers and their teachings, an important element in Chinese value system. The baptism of Christian ceremony, for another example, after being baptized Christians would expurgate their guilt and meanwhile, be educated the creeds of Christianity that profoundly influence the values of western culture. Rituals and ceremonies, undoubtedly, have the function of shaping the identical concepts of vale system for people, which furthermore, help them to seek their sense of belonging.

Relying on the religious ceremonies, people could search out the sense of belonging of their social group. For instance, in some religious rituals, adherents gather together singing songs and praying for their god’s protection. As our general experience, when people with the identical beliefs or concepts are assembled to engage in particular things, it would imperceptibly generate some kinds of harmonious cohesion drawing people more closely. Therefore, during the process of ceremonies, individuals experience the resembling senses of interdependence guiding people to search out the position of their social group. Obviously, rituals themselves are not only the means strengthening the people’ beliefs, or maintaining the existence of religions but also serves an significant function of stabilizing a society in which individual shares the same values and satisfies with the stable sense of belonging.   


However, in a society toward undue urbanization and globalization today, traditional rituals and ceremonies are gradually disappeared. Without conventional rituals, people today are unable to learn the lessons and connotations their ancestors tried to deliver. Thus, the disappearance of traditional ceremonies would not only damage the integrity of each culture but also, to certain extent, shake the stability of society. For avoiding this unfavorable phenomenon, governments should pay much attention on preserving the traditional rituals and ceremonies, part of cultural heritages.

In conclusion, rituals and ceremonies actually inculcate the acceptable value standards in the culture and serve as the tranquilizer for settling individuals’ soul. However, as a result of overly urbanization and globalization nowadays, these traditional heritages are gradually disappeared, which would destroy the uniqueness of each culture and impact the social stability. Therefore, governments should take the responsibility on conserving the integrity and maintaining the existence of conventional rituals and ceremonies.

我在第二段段尾，说明了ritual教导人民类似的价值观，因此有安定社为的效用。
在第三段（主题为ritual的消失对社会的影响）既然ritual有安定社为的效用，那么ritual的消失必定会对社会的安定性在（某些程度上）产生动摇，其实是想达到前后呼应的效果，只是，我的文笔不好，这样写来不仅没效果，被feier一提，我也觉得我这样的表述似乎逻辑性不佳，谢谢feier了..:P
