下面是我努力摆脱模板的第一篇Argument,请各位不吝赐教,以便取得进步。

Argument9
The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean at Omega University.
"Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should now terminate student evaluation of professors."

The author believes that once the student evaluation is terminated the increase in better jobs received by Omega University graduates will be achieved. However, the favorite result bases on several assumptions which are often not the ones the author thinks.

It is unfair, both for the faculty and the student of Omega University, to assume that the up-going of students' grades results from the intention of the faculty to get sound evaluation from students. The author fails to convince us that the intention of the faculty is the only factor contributing to the augment in students' grade without any convictive evidence. Actually, there are several key reasons responsible for the outcome, such as the teachers improve their teaching skills and adjust their way of teaching to a more appealing one, and students study harder, all of which are ignored by the author. Or simply put, it is the easier test that gives birth to the increase. Without respect to these reasonable explanations, the argument is too weak to bolster itself.

Another groundless assumption that potential employers hire fewer graduates from Omega University is due the inflated grades. Is it true? Are there other factors? No evidence is given to proof that the employers really believe the grades are fake. The author takes it for granted that it is the case, just because the increase coincides with the reduction in jobs quested by the students. In reality, it is all likely that it is out of the depression of economy or just competitors become much stronger. Without ruling out such alternative causes, the author cannot persuade us.

The last assumption is that Omega University is comparable with nearby Alpha University. If the majors of the former are pretty different from the latter, for instance, the Omega University has more fundamental subjects such as math, physics, biology and chemistry etc; the Alpha University, however, owns more interdisciplinary and applied subjects, namely mechanics, civil engineering and biochemistry etc. Then, the graduates from the Alpha have higher chances to find a job with the fast development. After all, a fifteen-year period is relatively long for great changes. In view of this, the Omega needn't to worry about the job situation of its students and the evaluation system, since the primary subjects are the fundament of the interdisciplinary and applied ones.

Finally, in order to better the job situation, the dean of Omega University need to inspect more details form the potential employers, not just to shun down the evaluation system arbitrarily. When all is said and done, this kind of system is conducive to motivate the faculty.
