118 Some people enjoy change, and they look forward to new experiences. Others like their lives to stay the same, and they do not change their usual habits. Compare these two approaches to life. Which approach do you prefer? Explain why.
Generally speaking, different people have different life styles. Some people are inclined to keep their usual conditions without any change; while others are always looking forward some. Both of the styles are reasonable. But as for me, I prefer to have a relatively unchangeable life.
Before stating my own standpoint, what I want to say is that the life style that favors change is understandable. From the angle of these people, it is boring to have a constant life pace. Repetitive things, like taking long commute to work, doing same work, meeting same faces, are so unbearable. They are aching for some incentives in order to continue. At this moment, a little bit change might be great.
However, in my point of view, if the current condition is satisfied, I do not want any change, because change means risk. To be honest, I am a conservative person and easy to be content. Although some changes may bring about new opportunities, I still fear of the possible risk it may cause, no matter how rare it may be. For instance, I will never be a job-hopper because I always hesitate to face the challenges, or even failures, coming with the decision. I would rather stay the same. In addition, I believe that only when doing a particular thing for a long enough time can I have a deep understanding about it and handle it with confidence. Take my research for example. When a research area is set, time and energy should be devoted on it. However, what would happen if the aim is changed frequently? Obviously, I cannot even step into the world of this area, not to mention any progress about it. Therefore, from the two points above, I do not like to change my life easily.
To sum up, I know that some change may take something new to us. Some people do like this. But because I do not like taking any risk and consider that change more or less undermines deep development, I prefer to an unchangeable life style. |
