With the rapid economic progress, China is becoming more and more beautiful today. New buildings are built every month, called a “constructing era”. In some cities, old buildings are destroyed and replaced with now ones. It is said that this movement will both contribute to the economics and make city more beautiful. But I just can not agree with this for the following specific reasons.

First, the old, historic buildings are not merely buildings. Sure, in someone’s eye, they are out-of-date. But in my opinion, they are treasures of the city. Many of them are records of events that passed, like the Jacobin Club in Paris; many are symbols of the spirit of a nation, like the Statue of Liberty in U.S.A. and the Great Wall in China, and many are good museums, for example, the Imperial Palace in Beijing. If we destroy them, we do only destroy buildings, but the records, symbols and museums, which can not be recovered.

Second, the old, historic buildings are attractions of tourists. Modern buildings are of course beautiful, but they have less variations than the old, historic ones. The latter, of each period in history, have their own styles. For example, the Baroque style, the Rococo Style, and so on. Variation offers beauty, thus attracts tourists. Tourism will increase the income of both the government and citizens, which is also benefit to the city’s economy.

Furthermore, replacing old, historic buildings with modern ones is not realistic for us. Fashion changes year to year. If we want to keep our buildings modern, we have to destroy and rebuild buildings every few years. This will cost a lot of money. China is not a wealthy country. Spend the money on other field such as education will be more meaningful.

To sum up, the old, historic buildings have both cultural and practical value on us. Replacing them with new ones is not a smart choice. Please conserve them.

Computer is considered one of the most important inventions of human. No other invention has changed our life so much like computer. In my point of view, computers have made our life easier and more convenient for the specific reasons below.

First, based on their powerful computing ability, computers made complex arithmetic problems much easier, and thus saved a lot of time and money. The first computer, the ENIAC, can do about 5,000 operations in a second, which is far beyond people. In the 1960s, with the help of computers, two scientists solved the four-color problem in approximate 100 hours, which has confused people for centuries before computer was invented. With computers, accountant do not need to spend much time calculating, they just need to input the data, and print out the result. The boring calculating process is finished by computers with no mistakes.

Second, computers have replaced human in many fields, thus improved the efficiency. With computer-based ATMs, which stand for Auto Teller Machine, we do not have to deal with tellers and fill forms; with computer-based auto-pilot machines, modern aeroplanes allow pilots to leave their seats and do some relaxation while flying in the sky; with computer-based microwave ovens, cooking is no longer a boring task for everyone; with computer network and emails, we only need to type the text on computer and click on the “send” button, then our friends will receive the mail. There is no denying email is much convenient than traditional letters.

Someone argues that computer made life complex and stress, but I think it is not the case. Sure, learning to use computers seems complex, but then you can enjoy the huge advantage computers bring to you, and computers are becoming more and more easier to use. Modern society requires people to deal with more affairs, do more work than before. Only with computers can we finish these tasks. Without the help of computers, our life will become unthinkable complex and stressful.

As a student majoring in computer science, I like computers, not only for the interests in studying the science, but also for the great contribution they bring to us, namely, the convenience to our life.

Famous athletes and entertainers, such as David Beckham, Harrison Ford, and Tiger Woods, earn millions of dollars every year. Do they deserve such high salaries? Different people have different views. But if I were asked this question, my answer is: yes, they deserve the high salaries. The reasons are blow.

First of all, athletes and entertainers have to practice hard in order to gain fame. Almost every athlete knows he must practice hard to defeat his challengers, to win the games, or else he will gain no fame. Even these who are already famous must practice hard to keep their position. For the entertainers it is the same case. They need to practice hard to make their performances perfect. Furthermore, they need to create their new styles, which do not only need hard practice and luck, thus it is risky.

Second, famous people have less freedom than ordinary people. Focused by various medias and the public, they have less privacy. They have to pay attention to keep their images good. They must take care of what they said and what they did. Any minor fault might cause serious problems because of their fame and influence. Ordinary people, who earn less salaries, do not need to worry about thess, they have much more freedom.

Third, famous athletes and entertainers earn their salaries from the audiences' voluntary pay. No athletes or entertainers have the power to force their audience to pay, all they can do is trying their best to meet the audiences' need, to make them enjoyable. No one will pay for an athlete or entertainer whose performence he is not satisified with, all he do is to pay for what he consider worth the money voluntarily. Neither the performancer nor the audience owes the other.

To sum up, I think the famous athletes and entertainers deserve the money they earned, for their hard practic, less freedom, and for the money are paid voluntarily.

From ancient time to the present ,there is an intense argument about the source of knowledge .someone believe that knowledge is gained from books,but others support that knowledge come from experience.I would have to say that ,if I were faced with decision ,T will hold the former view,knowledge gained from books.

there are numerous reasons why I prefer knowledge gained from books ,and I shall here explore only a few of the most importment ones. First , books are essence of intelligence .They include knowledge of thousands of people ,yound or old ,men or women ,the ancient or the present. Some are successful,while others are failed .However,whether they are successful or failed,the knowledge in their books is very precious.Successful experience guide us how to success ,while failed experience warn us to avoid mistakes they made so that we  can  make progress more smoothly.

Second,aborbing knowledge  from books is more efficient and convenient than from experience .If you want to know what exist in the bottom of the sea,for example ,can you really dive into the sea to experience ? Since it is not possible for everyone  to explore the mysterious world,we can learn to know it by using sciencists'eyes,the books.

The last but not the least ,life is limited,and what we can experience during opyr life are not too much.As we all know ,"art is long and life is short".From bookswe can learn as many times as what we can receive from experience thoughout our life.

Admittedly,knowledge gained from experience is also importment.By experiencing ,you can mater some knowledge more sturdily.However,knowledge  in books is the foundation of experience.In addition, books are more available and convenient.Deep down ,I prefer the knowledge gained from books.
