Should university students be required to attend classes? Or should going to classes be optional for them? Some people agree with the former, while others agree with the latter. If I should answer this question, I will choose the latter. The reasons are below.

First, allowing students to attend classes optionally makes study efficient. As a class consists of many students, uniform education would not be appropriate for everyone. But allowing university students go to classes optionally gives them the freedom to choose the most efficient and appropriate studying form for them. For example, I found some teacher’s lessons do not fit me, some are even boring, as we are not required to attend classes, I make my own plan to make my study more efficient. In the final exams I can also get high scores. But if we are required to attend classes, I will have to spend more time with less efficiency.

Second, allowing students to attend classes optionally can relieve the disadvantage of too much specialization. Most people have realized that too much specialization is a fault of current university education. If students are not required to attend classes, they can participate in various movements, they can study what they take interests in, they can do a lot of other things that are much meaningful for them. After all, not everything can be learned in classes, especially in the prescribed cirruculums, and master knowledge in various fields will do no harm to the youth.

Some people may argue that if the students are given the freedom to attend classes, many of them will play games other than study. But remember they are university students rather than primary or middle school students, they are responsible for their behavior. They know what they need, they know what they have to do. For example, in my university, although students are not required to attend classes, at least 80 percent of the students always attend classes. So we do not have to worry about this problem.

To sum up, I think university students should be given the freedom to attend classes optionally. For it is efficient, it will relieve the disadvantage of too much specialization, and worries are not necessary.

Some people prefer to live in a small town, while others prefer to live in a big city. Small towns or big cities, which is better to live? If I were asked this question, my answer is definitely the latter, that is, big cities are better for people to live in. The reasons are below.

First, as I am fond of reading books, sometimes called “book worm”, big cities are more attractive for me. There are many large book stores in big cities. I like book stores, where I can find a variety of books and of almost any kind, where I can get the latest book immediately after they have been published. There are also large scale second-hand book markets in big cities, where I can find old books I have been longing for a long time. And, furthermore, large libraries hold millions of books located in big cities. Even some foreign books can be found there. But in small towns, there are not many book stores and libraries, and the number of books can be found there are much less compared to those of the big cities. For me, living in such a environment is rather boring.

Second, lives in big cities are fascinating and convenient. I can enjoy plenty of opportunities to experience various new things, new thoughts, strange people, various events and so on. Most big cities have efficient and convenient transportations, which can save us a lot of time and money when we want to go out. Meanwhile, lives in small towns are relatively ordinary, that is, with less inspiration and passion. And, because the transportation is not convenient enough, you have to spend a lot of time on the way if you want to go somewhere.

Some people may argue that small towns offer better natural environments, namely, fresh air, clean water, and green forests. But big cities can also offer good natural environment. For example, Changchun, a big city in northeast China, 37 percent of whose area is covered by forest and grass, is called “the city of forest”. Living in Changchun, people also have clean water, fresh air, and green forests.

So, in a nut shell, big cities are better than small towns to live in, for the large book stores and libraries, for the fascinating live and convenient transportation. I prefer to live in big cities.

Who is the best teacher? The answer can be various: books and computers, friends and colleagues, teaches in schools, and so on. But if I were asked this question, my answer is the parents. I think parents are definitely the best teachers for the specific reasons below.

First, compared with computers and books, parents are intimate, which is a crucial attribute of good teachers. Sure, computers and books are informative, they contain large amount of knowledge and information, even far beyond any individual have. But they are not good teachers. Computers and books lack intimacy, which means learning form them is not interactive, it is only a one-way transmission. You can not tell them what you feel, what you have difficulties in, what you do not understand. Learning from computers and books can be rather insipid, especially after you have studied for a long time. Compared with them, parents are intimate, you can communicate with them, making learning lively and interesting. Thus parents are better teachers than computers and books.

Second, compared with friends and colleagues, parents have much more experience. Experience is precious and helpful, suggestions and guidance based on experience can help us avoid mistakes and troubles, and finish our tasks efficiently. Experience depends on the time one has lived largely. Since most of our friends and colleagues are of the same age as us, parents’ suggestion and guidance, based on much more experience, are thus much more valuable than our theirs. Don’t you think parents are better teachers than friends and colleagues?

Compared with teachers in schools, parents are more familiar with us, which means they can give us the most urgent and appropriate help and knowledge we need. Teachers in schools are in charge of a whole class, while parents only need to take care of their own children, thus parents are more helpful than teachers in schools.

Furthermore, compared with other teachers, only parents will surely teach us all they know, give us all they have, without any conservation. Isn’t it suggests that parents are better than them?

In a sum, I think parents are best teachers, for their intimacy, their experience, their familiarization with us, and their unselfishness.
