We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict our own; disagreement can cause stress and inhibit learning.

The speaker's assertion that more can be learnt from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict our own is drawn from the assumption that disagreement is not and agreement is beneficial to the learning environment under all circumstances.
My point of contention will illustrate that none of the two assumptions can be taken for granted and in fact, both disagreement and agreement could potentially foster learning experience.

It might be tempting to agree with the speaker based on the common sense that human beings are more willing to embrace similar opinions than opposite ones because the nature of human beings requires self-confirmation from the feedback of others in the process of communication.We can achieve self-confirmation and confidence when similar views are shared while opposite views, in many cases, bring us self-questioning. Following self-questioning is the unfriendly condition that suppresses a free flow of information interchanged during communication; because we are usually afraid to present our opinions fully when contradiction exists. Moreover, considering two people who are equally willing to speak out, in quite many cases they end up devoting their time and energy in justifying their own argument and ignore the reason why this argument is carried out in the first place.

However, the assertion that agreement will always promote learning experience has not been grounded yet. Admittedly agreement can be beneficial because human beings are gregarious animals that build our identity upon similarities shared among the group. For example,people are usually more talkative in front of the person they identify themselves with. In addition, people from different background can have completely different logic that is justified within their own system but not in each other’s; therefore sometimes it can be difficult f to understand each other at all. In this case, agreement facilitates learning by allowing a fluent exchange of ideas.

But let's not forget instances where disagreement generate sparks of thoughts from the fresh perspectives and experiences it brings. When it comes to industrial design, disagreement is welcomed as artistic views can offer the aesthetic aspect of the product and the engineering the practical aspect. In a broader sense, our experiences are always s limited, hence our limited way of thinking and partial understandingof the world. Although people from different culture may disagree with each other on some issues, their own first hand evidences can convince each other to adapt to a more open-minded approach to these issues which is much more compelling and efficient than any theory alone.

In a final analysis, although it is generally true that we learn agreeably from people whose ideas we share， the amount of knowledge is also confined, especially in regard of fundamental ways of thinking that could lead to many other limitations in our learning further on.
In the process of communicating with contradicting voices, we can be enlightened of this restraint and encouraged to seek outside our own bubbles which in a long run may be beneficial intellectually.
