In the lecture, the speaker definitelyshows to us that the three proposed solutions mentioned in the reading aimed atameliorating the dangerous situation of Torreya taxifoha will be inefficacious.The speaker offers detailed reasons for her attitudes.
     Firstly, the speaker mentions that it’s unrealisticto reestablish Torreya in the same location where the plants have flourished forthousands of years because their living environment has been more or lessdestroyed. The modern industrialization has a strong impact on their naturaland strict living conditions. The large microclimate regions on which they dependso as to exuberant have disappeared. In particular, the global warming hasrisen the temperature beyond their toleration. In fact, the specie is accustomedto living in the cooler and wetter conditions. However, it’s almost impossibleto rebuild the changed environment.
Secondly, it’snot feasible to move them to a different location. The speaker takes theinstance of another plant which was once transferred to other places toillustrate the serious consequence of such a deed. They may kill the localplants once introduced into a new environment where there are no natural enemies.This may in turn make other, even more kind of species to be extinguished.
Thirdly, we can’tplay a reliance on preserving them in the research centre. The plants are solarge and diverse. How can we spare enough space and effort to cultivate themin a large scale in the research conditions? Obviously, this is just an utopiansolution.


I can’t agree with the saying that studentsare more influenced by teachers than by their friends. Undoubtedly, no oneattempts to deny the significance of teachers to students. But what I want tosay is that friends with whom we get long in the everyday life influence us ina more decisive and comprehensive way. Here are my reasons.
Many studentshave the experiences of trying to escape the vision of the teachers. Why? Andhave you ever heard anyone to repulse his good friends? It’s seldom this case.The friends are in the same ages with us and we just have endless topic todiscuss and argue. Nevertheless, when you are confronted with your mathteacher, it’s likely that all you can do is just mention some math problems.When I’m together with my friends, we can also discuss the same problem, andeven in a lively atmosphere. Students may be trapped in a series of scruplesfacing a adult teacher and act punctilious to avoid offending them. But infront of your friend, they just discuss openly and express whatever different opinions.
On the other hand, the teachers always appearto be so strict to keep the basic discipline needed. Their work concentrates oninstilling us the specialized knowledge. So it’s obviously not suitable formost students to share with the teachers their problems in the daily life, likemental problems or financial problems. When I fails in a exam, or have a squabblewith my parents, my friends always come to comfort me in time. For the healthydevelopment of students, these mental-related problems may be more urgent to beaddressed. You can obtain the knowledge in class later, but never can ignorethese everyday displeasure.
  What’s more, we can always identify with ourfriend as we are in the same growing stage and may face the similar confusions.There is a duration when I was fascinated by the tennis. I directly abet myfriend to join me even though he never plays that before. Because we are bothglad to try something new after the relatively boring courses and we both lovesexercise. We share the some interests.
In addition, weshould notice that it’s hard for teachers to spare that much attention on everycommon student like me. The relationship is generally restricted in class,which is just a little part of our whole life. On the contrary, we spend mostof the times with our friends, especially during the campus life. In thecampus, the teachers just teach us for only a term, and it’s even a challengefor them to remember our names at terminal of the semester.
  These are the main reasons I space more in myheart for friends than teachers. I acknowledge that teachers are indispensable,but when comparing with the various friends that affect our life all the times,their significance apparently fades slightly.
