Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: In order to become financially responsible adults, children should manage their own money at the young age.



Nowadays, a great number of people propose that children should manage their money all by themselves, because when they grow up, they could benefit from that and become financially responsible adults. In my opinion, however, I do not think it is a good idea. I suggest that parents should help their children to manage their money, because children are always too young to have enough experience in management of money. Besides that, there are also too much lure around children which may entice them to waste money.

Anyway, children are too young, they have little or even no experience in managing money. Children don’t earn money, they don’t know how hard it is to make money. So they just use up all the money their parents give them without considering whether or not they should save this money. It is quite often that we see a young boy gets money from his parents as pocket money for a month, but then he spend all these money at the beginning of a month. By the middle of the month, the boy has already no money left. From this instance we can see, lack of enough experiences, children could not manage their own money. So the parents should help them to do that. Parents would tell their children how to save and spend the money, and by this measure, children would learn to be financially responsible.

Also, There are too much lure around children nowadays, such as various toys, cartoon books, CD players, MP3 and so on. Children are still too young, they could not control themselves well. In this case, children are easily addicted to spending lots of money and time on these things. Obviously, This is really harmful to our children. Not only do they waste a lot of money, but also they will then pay little attention to their study. As a consequence, these children will fail in the exam and make no progress in their study. So, parents’ help is needed. Parents could help their children to keep from these lure and teach them what is needed to buy and what is not

Of course, parents should help their children to manage their money rather than entirely govern children’s money. Anyway, children themselves have responsibility to manage their own asset. What parents should do is to try their best to help their children to manage money and tell them some practical methods of money management. If children’s money is managed completely by their parents, children then lose a chance to learn to manage money. Then when they grow up, they will not be financially responsible.

To sum up, I do not agree the statement that children should manage their money all by themselves. Their parents should help them to do that and teach them how to manage money feasibly.
