啊的确，斑竹说的是…我最近很着急的准备文书，准备推荐信，但是自己觉得很没有底，然后今天一看就是“谁说过PS很重要？谁说过推荐信很重要？”……大二的感受完全没有现在深，但是觉得有道理，ps只是一个冷冰冰的材料的延伸啊，的确没有认真在专业上花功夫

然后就是自己突然觉得ps写的太空洞了，没有实质的东西，没有写下去的动力了。觉得写了也是bullshit，没有专业思考就是没有专业思考，没有论文经历就是没有论文经历，细节是写不出来的。而且简历上也全充斥的是不重要的活动，课堂上的class project细节自己都忘光了，写上去贻笑大方，如果有面试，全露馅了，简历也不能打动人

I dont know whats in that book.
But I know Ive talked about these thousands of times on gter, including what kind of students prof wants, what is valuable in the application prof would like to see, what we should write, how to write and what benefits our application.
These are common sense and normal logic. If you dont have these, then the book may help you a bit.
Other than that, I dont really know what else you wanna get out from that book. Maybe motivation? lol

they intentionally confuse you
partly because they have nothing to say, partly because they want you to believe in their expertise,which they don't have

for example, they lack accurate data or details but tons of stupid stories and theories that they cannot explicitly explain.

btw, there's always some negative side in everything. sometimes, your weak background blocks your way to a certain goals. this is the reality! but books of this kind are relunctant to admit explicitly because they want to give you an illusion that their expertise and secret formula can dramatically improve your chance of success(well, the only true magic that can do this job is fraud!).
