Populations of the yellow cedar, a species of tree that is common in northwestern North America, have been steadily declining for more than a century now, since about 1880. Scientists have advanced several hypotheses to explain this decline. One hypothesis is that the yellow cedar decline may be caused by insect parasites, specifically the cedar bark beetle. This beetle is known to attack cedar trees; the beetle larvae eat the wood. There have been recorded instances of sustained beetle attacks overwhelming and killing yellow cedars, so this insect is a good candidate for the cause of the tree’s decline. A second hypothesis attributes the decline to brown bears. Bears sometimes claw at the cedars in order to eat the tree bark, which has a high sugar content. In fact, the cedar bark can contain as much sugar as the wild berries that are a staple of the bears’ diet. Although the bears’ clawing is unlikely to destroy trees by itself, their aggressive feeding habits may critically weaken enough trees to be responsible for the decline. The third hypothesis states that gradual changes of climate may be to blame. Over the last hundred years, the patterns of seasonal as well as day-to-day temperatures have changed in northwestern North America. These changes have affected the root systems of the yellow cedar trees: the fine surface roots now start growing in the late winter rather than in the early spring. The change in the timing of root growth may have significant consequences. Growing roots are sensitive and are therefore likely to suffer damage from partial freezing on cold winter nights. This frozen root damage may be capable of undermining the health of the whole tree, eventually killing it.		Write your response here.
		In the reading passage, the author makes some explanations about the decline situation of the species of tree which is common in northwestern north American. He said it might be the insect parasites, the damage from brown bear or the cold climate condition be the reasons for the low number of trees. But the professor in the listening passage caste a great doubt on it for the following reasons. First, the professor indicates that a healthy tree has the capability to protect itself rather that be damaged by the insect parasites’ attack. The can generally provide a chemical material that may hurt the insects who want to eat them and even kill them. Therefore, how can we think of the insects as the main cause of the decline? In the second place, as opposite to the second assumption described in the reading material that the brown bears claw action put a threaten to the survival of there trees, the speaker claims that bears can not have the opportunities to decline the overall population if trees. Because the trees spread across the northern American, include the Ireland, while it is known to people that in this island no bear is here. Thus, we cannot conclude that the bear may be responsible for the situation. Finally, the author only take one of factor into consideration to draw a conclusion that it is the winter freezing climate damage the root system of plants lead to the difficult to keep the body health. However, the professor provides a recode indicates that trees in the place have a higher rate of death according to the warm weather instead of the cold one. Even the root system is very sensitive, it is more like to dead in a warm atmosphere. Then, the third hypothesis is also not have the substantial ground to be proved to a correct theory.

	In the high-pace world, it is more common to see people walk, dress, and talk and work more and faster than before. Many people many begin to consider a question that if we should work quickly and risk making mistakes to get more things and results or we should work slowly and make sure that everything is correct. As far as I am concerned, i think we can find a solution, though may not perfect, to consolidate the problem. In the first place, the phenomena of pursuit the speed of working is force by the current society that have the advanced technology to help people obtain information and materials in just few seconds. Especially, with the advent of internet and computer, it is more convenient for people to tackle with a large amount of things together due to the simple actions such as the click on the websites or key in the words into the research engine to find useful information. The fact of society has a great imperative impact on workers to learn of the computers to have the same higher ability to accomplish the work. This is all due to the competitive nature of human being and society. In the second place, I still think that correct is more important and valuable than the high pace. Can you imagine a book is full with a variety of false words and sentences while just use several days to work out in order to be published in time? Can you imagine that your tests will be given scores by teachers who skim your results in order to come back home early. You may think that it is very ridiculous and irresponsible for you and other people.
	Nowadays, people are all required by the leaders and bosses to be efficient. So at first, we should clear know what the meaning of it so that we could make our efforts to achieve it. In may mind, I consider the efficiency not only refer to the speed but also the correctness. Time is money and life. You cannot waste a lot of time to work out the assignment again and again because of some mistakes. Finally, there is always having a balance point between the time we use for work and the result of the work that can make up for the both sides. If a person want to be a capable worker in the current fierce world, he or she should have the characteristic of carefulness and enough patient to take some time for checking his or her own work and also can finish the described projects in time even aside for some more time.(….)
