有一只Cornell sociology phd 的wait list，想跟学校保持联系，但不知道能问啥或者干啥，大家有好的建议吗？
我想这么写邮件：
先表个忠心，然后问几个问题：
1. 两周以来形式有米有发生什么变化，我的录取几率有米有改变？...
2. 问一下他们的wait list是不是rank based，如果是的话我排在哪儿？...
3. 是不是一定会wait到4.15之后？
4. 我现在是否能做点啥提高我的竞争力，比如再寄一封推荐信之类的...

大家觉得我还能问一点或者说点什么呢？

还有，我应该发给Director of Graduate Studies，还是当时面试我的老师，还是跟我方向比较一致的老师（当初没陶瓷过）呢？

教授给我回信了，给大家参考一下：
thanks for your email. I know the waitlist is a difficult position to be
in.

1. no real change. Whether we can admit anyone from the waitlist depends
on decisions made by those admitted, and we dont have enough information
to have a good idea yet.

2. There is no formal ranking. I will make decisions based on several
factors including balance in the cohort depending on who accepts.

3. Lat year we made 2 additional offers just a few days before April 15.
Unfortunately many students weighing offers do not make up their minds
until quite late.

4. There's nothing you should submit. This contact between us is useful
as I know from it that you are very interested, which is important.

But I will ask you a question. What leads Cornell to be a top choice for
you, and where do you see the strongest fit between Cornell and your
research interests?

表忠心结果反而给自己下套了...教授追问我到底哪里fit了...没套过磁的人悲剧了，要去钻研department website 和faculty CV了...

我觉得这个邮件带来了很多希望啊，“What leads Cornell to be a top choice for you, and where do you see the strongest fit between Cornell and your research interests?”
关于这个的回答，你都可以写封袖珍的research proposal了，说不定感动教授了，然后说不定offer就来了.
