When asked which aspects would primarily consider when choose the ideal university, more and more students would regard fame or professor's fame as the most important factor. However, this point is questioned by an increasing number of parents, they think what kind of knowledge their kids can learn from school is crucial. According to the experience that I learn from school these years, I believe that the importance of finding good jobs outweigh the fame of professors when consider universities.
To begin with, there is a obvious tendency that finding job has become the primary goal for students in the universities, since it’s hard for hunting a job. So students should consider their future in advance. With the university-expansion policy, the scale of recruitments for college students increase fast which surpass the need of labor market, which leads to the unemployment for students when they graduate. If students choose a university that have a tradition of low unemployment, the students will simply more competitive in the job market. However, these advantages can't be made by other universities, such as having a high fame of professors.
What's more, university with low employment means what they teach for students is practical. With these practical skills, students can be success in any economic environment after they graduation. For example, a friend of mine come from Xiamen University, which always provide students a lot of internship for students, entered a famous company. When the economy go down, the company decided to dismiss redundancies to reduce the operation cost. Many of his colleagues was dismissed even if they came from famous school such as Tsinghua university. but my friend is always safe about his position. So with a practical skill obtained from professional universities, students will always be competitive in any situation.
Admittedly, some famous professors are kind and willing to help students find jobs by using their resources. So if you become these teacher's students, it is fortunate for you. but it will be risky to devote of our hope to find such a famous professor. since high fame is not represent actual skill for students. even more, the professor with high fame are usually teaching more students or demanding, so student can not have enough opportunities to learn for him or her.
In conclude, to say universities having famous professor outweigh universities providing good job promise is misleading, which fail to realize the serious employment situation that students will confronted with. So high school universities should always firstly investigate the employments of graduates when they make decision about choosing universities and majors.
