225"People often look for similarities, even between very different things, and even when it is unhelpful or harmful to do so. Instead, a thing should be considered on its own terms; we should avoid the tendency to compare it to something else."
Comparison is a crucial process of being acquainted with or manipulating whatever we are focusing on. Throughout comparison, we are able to get more holistic information of the incidence so as to avoid being misled by some superficial phenomena. Therefore, owing to the ultimate intent of comparing distinct things, which is to find a way of giving rise to constant development(可以把owing to 改成一个能接句子的原因连接词 如 since the ultimate intent of comparing distinct things is to find a way of constant development. 这样就显得不那么罗索了。), we should cultivate a spirit of viewing the world with the eyes of comparison, rather than consider a thing on its own terms, which proves to be a risky enterprise.(开头写的不错,观点鲜明,用词也不错,不过一些好像不太适合,如manipulate, incidence)
The benefits of comparison is(are) self-evident, especially when things are turning (are turning 改为turn 好些)out be ambiguous, which poses a big obstacle on some significant decisions, for example, when two people are debating on the court, both of them listing plausible evident to corroborate their viewpoints, (连接词but)which one of them should we support?(这里可以自问自答一下,如:It is tough to decide.这样可很好的和下句衔接) Here, the only way to resolve this problem is by comparison (比较what??感觉这个例子据的不是很好。当两个人辩论时,听众自然在compare,不是吗?后面的compare又是指的什么呢?要是我,我会说:只听一面之辞,we donot know which one we should support;but 兼听(也就是比较)则明。)that takes the possession of the capacity to enlighten us. Thus, laws and regulations prevalent (prevalent 是形容词 that are prevalent)among many countries have been established by extracting cases before(?) and by discovering similarities and correlations between them. Further, comparison can help us perceive things with multiple angles through which the safeguards against prejudice or tendency of misunderstanding have been set up. A case in point is people's view towards Socrates, (句号)while he is one of ancient heavyweights of conscience in sharp contrast to(with) the uninitiated, he is(was) regarded as a villain compared with those genuine scientists, who, different from the his(?), based their theories on disinterested research and observation.(这个例子中比较的对象是什么?)
In addition, comparison possesses a virtue of leading us to the world we have never known in the past, which is the emblem of progress. As we all know, throughout (the删掉) human history, comparison is one of the factors that laid the ground of modern sophisticate(d) technology and highly-developed industry that we cannot even imagine before. By comparison between the efficiency of various transport tools, we invented carts, trains and trucks, (and或者;)by researching similarities and difference between birds, we refined the common properties of them, which induced the generation of planes. Thus, it can be readily concluded that comparison is one of primary powers that drives us forward.
Without comparison, there will not be the presence(existence) of human society and the development will always be a dream for us. With the consideration of a thing's own terms, we can never build up a standard for determining whether it is right or wrong, whether it is manageable, or whether it will exert a strong influence on us, thereby the whole situation will turn out to be unthinkable. For instance, Greek was conquered by Rome for Greek's lack of comparison of the situation with Rome, Although Greek had a more advanced culture than Roma, it is not equal (to删掉) that it would have favorable leverage in winning the war without first knowing Rome's military merits.
In sum, before we make any critical judgment and do any decisive research, we ought to always take comparison into account, which is the crux of accomplishing success and the guidance of the brilliant future; otherwise we will be most likely to fall into a pitfall that can plague our work.
总的来说,文章写的不错。词汇很丰富,但少数几个感觉不太恰当,句式也用的不错,注意不要为了复杂而复杂,用太多的which 定语从句。
