ISSUE152 The only responsibility of corporate executives, provided they stay within the law, is to make as much money as possible for their companies.
As universally acknowledged, nowadays we are living in the commercial society, which advocates the significance of marketing economic and tends to put wealth above everything. In the issue the speaker asserts that as long as complying with the law, executives of the corporations are only responsible for nothing but their companies' economic profits. Apparently, his/her statement is too absolute and irresponsible, for as a leader in a enterprises, ()an executives should put the social value of his/her company at the first place, while the economic profits are just by-product.
To begin with my view, the success of a company lies not only in how much money it makes, more important, in what contributions it does to the society. In this sense, the executive of the company may play a crucial role. A case in point is the success of Microsoft Corporation. Bill Gates, as the head of the company, [U]spares no efforts to the public utilities regardless of the financial expense,[/U] (不对吧) by means of which enhanced (现在时吧?)the reputation of his company so that more people tend to buy his softwares, which in return brings (主胃一致)him great economic profits. In the mind of the public,(有这种说法?) what a company can do for the society is always more significance than how much it can earn. Devotion to the society is a wise investigation for the company to earn both the market and public.
In addition, important as money-making is, what should be brought into focus by the executive is the culture of the enterprise. An excellent enterprise always has its unique culture, which creates a favorable working environment for the employees, so that they can work more easily with a good state of mind. (企业文化这样定义不妥把?)Moreover, it is easily to be concluded that once the employees devote their heart and soul into their works, there is no worry for (?)the efficiency and profits. There are many cases illustrating this point of view. Many international enterprises have their own mottos, such as "Just do it" from Nike, and "I'm lovin' it" being sung every day in every McDonald’s. These words not only attract consumers but also inspire both the managers and employees to worker (谓语呢)more passionately in the form of a corporate culture. A successful corporate culture created by the executive will bring the enterprise a surprising pay-off.
On the other hand, overemphasis on social value may sometimes obscure the significance of economic profits. Broadly speaking, the original purpose of the establishment of an enterprise is making money. With the development,(这样是表达?) the social contributions and corporate culture can be taken into account. Fortunately, the above-mentioned, however, are not mutually exclusive, so it is totally to reconcile all of them so that the enterprise will enjoy more fruits. Nokia Corporation in Finland is a successful example. It does well in the spread of its culture, so that almost everyone in the world will thing(什么意思?) the word Nokia for a few seconds when purchasing a cell phone. What's more, it invested a lot in the social constructions, and now more than 70% of the public telephones are set by the Nokia. So it is easy for a company like Nokia to make money, and now in the time when a person blinks, a Nokia cell phone is sold in the world.(这个句子与主题逻辑很别扭)
In sum, we can easily come to the conclusion that prosperity of a enterprise is up to many factors which I can not list all above. However, what an executive should pay attention(TO) is that economic profits do not necessarily always come the first.(对吗) The focus on its social influence sometimes may even be more crucial. Although it may not guarantee the success, but the pay-off will be worth the effort.
