[B]Outline:
Sample: SARS.
Agree:
Many people accuse political leaders of their dishonesty to the populace. But in my opinion, if a politician holds the principle of telling the truth all along, he/she can hardly succeed in the political arena. In other words, it is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time.
First of all, politicians are also 用的不合适,觉得应该去掉human beings. As long as 应该是because吧they are human beings, they can hardly maintain complete honesty all the time. As an adult, nearly every one of us has the experience of lying to the others. No matter whom we lied to, if we did, even only once, we are no longer complete honest because there is a flaw in our life. So it is unfair to force politicians to be honest all the time.
Secondly, political leaders have to be dishonest sometimes, for the benefit of the group they lead. What is politics? How to become an effective political leader? They are questions difficult to answer. But as far as I am concerned, a political leader’s innate duty is to obtain as much benefit as possible for the group or party or even the whole nation he/she represents. So that in most situation, if he/she can gain more benefit for his/her group by just telling a lie, he/she would 是不是应该是should,我也不太确定choose to lie or cheat with little hesitation. A politician may cheat in some kinds of competitions or lie to the others, including the other politicians and even the populace. But this(?it,后面那个也是) is not a problem of the politician’s morality, this is politics. The politician merely does his/her duty.
The third reason politicians have to lie or cheat is for surviving the cruel competition in the political arena as individuals. As we all know, politics is full of lies and cheat. If you tell the truth all the time while the others keep cheating you, you will be in a very unfavorable position when you compete with others. On this way, you can hardly succeed as a politician. Even more, if you are the leader of a group, you may lead your group to failure.
Some people may argue that they met some both honest and effective politicians. But who knows if these politicians are really complete honest or they just behave as if they are honest? Maybe they showed you their honesty but disguised their dishonesty to win you over to their side, so that you would give them a hand in elections. This is only a strategy for politicians, but indeed, they are cheating you to win your trust.
However, as an individual in the society, I still strongly hope political leaders to be honest as possible as they can, because sometimes their dishonesty may cause disastrous effects even though their aim is favorable. We can take the spread of SARS in China as an example. In this incident, Chinese government disguised the fact that SARS is extremely dangerous to human in order to protect the economy of China. This manner leads to the speedy spread of SARS all around China and blocked the economic development. The purpose is unquestionable but the result is out of their anticipation.
In a word, for all kinds of reasons, political leaders can hardly tell the truth all the time, though their honesty is anticipated by the common people.
